Escape from Pain
Hi there. Chapter one of my FE fanfic, yay. :c Bonus cool points if you can tell me what the title of the chapter is from.
-------
Ch 1 -- Escape from Pain
"Nils! Hold back your fear and hurry up! They'll be here any second!" Nights cried, holding out her hand to help her little brother, Nils, onto the back of the pegasus. He was trembling.
"N-Nights! I can't!" he cried.
"Don't be afraid, Nils! Liete would never hurt you!" she assured. She nervously glanced over her shoulder. She swallowed a frightened yelp as she saw the bandits coming over the small hill. They were armed with bows and spears.
"NILS!" Nights shouted, grabbing her brother around the wrist and pulling him onto the back of her pegasus. The bandits were nearing quickly. She cast one last weary glance over her shoulder as she dug her heels into the sides of Liete and with a mesh of feathers and kicked-up dirt, they were off the ground. Nights choked back a cry as an arrow whizzed past her nose, and another just barely missing Liete's ear. The disgruntled, angry cries of the bandits could be heard as they flew off. Nights breathed a sigh of relief. She just now felt the trembling grip Nils had around her middle.
"Nils... are you alright?" she asked, gripping her lanec tightly and holding onto the mane of the stunningly rare black pegasus.
"I'm f-fine, Nights... How about you?" he asked shakily. Nights sighed.
"I am uninjured, thankfully," she replied.
"Why did they do such a terrible thing...?" Nils asked her, his fear of the pegasus waning slightly. Nights shook her head.
"I know not, Nils... I know not." Nights and Nils had barely escaped an attack from the large group of bandits that had mercilessly attacked her village. Stepping over fallen bodies and slipping in pools of blood, they had clamboured to the stable where luckily, her faithful friend was still alive. Nights was a very skilled Pegasus knight. Her only weapon was a lance with an onyxite tip.
"That's it!!" she cried, startling Nils. "They're after the Sui'sho Blood Crystal!" she finished, bringing the tip of her lance to look at it closely. Embedded deep within the onyxite tip of her precious weapon was a tiny ruby that had been passed down from generation to generation of Sui'sho. It was written in legend that if someone could bring the three stones of Blood, Water, and Earth together, they would gain the power to rule the world.
"Did you say something, Nights?" Nils asked. Nights shook her head.
"No, Nils... Just rest." Nights sighed. She heard Nils sigh too and felt him shift.
"Liete..." Nights murmured softly. "Take us to Lord Eliwood's castle," she instructed the flying creature. 'He'll take us in,' she thought to herself.
