Chapter 1
“Trap”
Dante hung up the phone with a bit of a slam and sighed after a long talk with a new customer. “Okay, looks like I got one hell of a job to do out of town, Lady.” He stated.
Lady looked up from her magazine, “Oh? Where at?” she asked.
Dante looked down at the ground and closed his eyes. He then scratched his head and let out a deep breath through his nose, waiting a long moment to answer. “Boston.” He replied.
She frowned and looked at him, “Oh, I guess you will be gone for a few days.” She stated sadly.
He waved a gloved hand at her, “Nah, I’ll be back tomorrow morning. Don’t worry babe.” He gave her a big fanged grin then picked up Ebony and Ivory and started checking them.
Lady just sat there on the old red sofa, with her legs crossed and a magazine on her lap. Her bi-colored eyes focused on him as he went through his pre-hunt routine of checking the chambers and magazines of his guns.
After a few long minutes of silence she sucked in a silent breath and spoke up again as he went to his weapons cabinet to grab Rebellion. “So do you want me to take over your jobs while you’re gone?” she asked, hoping he would say yes.
Dante’s blue eyes darted from the cabinet to her in a threatening glare, “No.”
She glared back, “Why not.”
“Because, I don’t want to come back and find you dead or in intensive care again.”
“I make one mistake and you’re going to forbid me from fighting?”
Dante stopped what he was doing and walked over in front of her. Le looked down at her, his icy cold glare remaining in his eyes. “No offense, Mary, but you are pure human and your 31, your spirit is willing for fights but your body can’t keep up.” He informed.
Lady narrowed her eyes and pressed her lips hard together when he said her birth name. She hated it when he called her that though she knew he only used it when he was serious about what he was saying.
“So? You are 34.”
He folded his arms across his chest and raised a brow. “I’m also half-demon. Plus I am sure you noticed I look 25. Especially after you walked in on me showering last week.” He stated in a nonchalant tone.
“You left the bathroom door cracked. You should have locked it.” She spat.
Dante didn’t say another word; he didn’t feel like an argument, he hasn’t liked picking verbal fights in years.
The devil-hunter just walked back to the weapons cabinet and pulled out Rebellion and gave it a few good test swings then checked its sharpness.
Lady sighed, “Can I at least come with you?” she inquired
“No.” he replied firmly while strapping his sword on his back.
“Then I am going to take some minor cases.” She informed stubbornly.
Dante’s eyes flashed dangerously and curled a lip at her, showing a peek of his fangs while letting out a low growl. “You will not. I don’t want to find you dead.”
She huffed angrily and looked away. This caused Dante to frown and walk over to her. He reached down and grabbed her cheek and turned her head and looked her straight in the eyes. “Please promise me you will stay here and not hunt demons. I don’t want to loose you.” He begged.
Lady’s eyes dropped to the ground and she let out a sad sigh. “Alright…” she replied quietly. He started to walk away when she spoke up again, “But why are you so aliment on keeping me from hunting?”
Dante sighed, “I care about you Mary. You’re my friend. You’re the only person I care about that’s alive.” He answered.
“Are you telling me you like me?” she asked with an amused tone.
He let out a very short quiet chuckle, “No Lady I’m not.”
“Wow I thought you would. I mean you tried before. What has changed it? I’m old now?”
He turned to her with a soft, sad smile. “Nothing changed Lady. And you’re not old.” He replied soothingly. He knelt down in front of her and looked her in the eyes. “I’m gay. I always have been.”
“Y-you’re gay? But I’ve never seen you with a guy. Also explains some of your quirks.”
Dante shook his head. “It’s Long story. Ask me again when I get back. I’ll tell you why. I promise.”
The red-clad half-demon stood back up and headed for the door, “Just take messages I’ll be back by noon tomorrow.” He called back, waving as he walked out the door.
Lady brought her magazine back up after he left and continued on reading.

After an hour of flight on a twin engine sestina Dante landed at a small private airport in Boston and exited the plane.
He sauntered slowly to a tall building and looked at its address numbers. He nodded, satisfied that he was in the right place and entered.
Dante looked around the empty building then scratched his head. “Hello? Anyone here?” he called.
After a few long moments a sensual female voice called out to him, “Welcome, to your death, Dante, Son of Sparda.” The voice echoed, followed by a shrill laughter.
He turned when the doors then slammed shut. “Shit!”
He rushed to the doors and tried to open but they wouldn’t budge.
Moments later a large group of Hell-pries appeared through small portals and started for Dante.
He gritted his teeth together and pulled out Rebellion. “Looks like I have no choice.” He stated.
Dante rushed towards the prides and started slashing at the first few, bringing his sword down on the first one, turning it to sand. After it was dead he was surrounded by ten more. He swung his sword out in front of him horizontally across their stomachs, slicing two in half while the rest brought their scythes up to block.
After finishing of the immediate ten around him he saw hell-wraths walking towards him, “Oh great, my favorite…” he stated sarcastically as he continued hacking away at the demons around him.
After he cleared a path the Hell-wraths exploded, taking out many of the surrounding Hell-Prides and Lusts while blowing Dante back into a wall hard.

A silver haired man stopped and looked up as he was walking down the street and looked off in the direction of smoke rising. He narrowed his eyes, sensing a large concentration of demonic energy with one familiar aura.
He turned a corner and started off in the direction of the explosion, running as fast as he could.

Dante slowly got to his feet with a grunt of pain and exertion, spitting blood out on the ground below him. As he looked up, another large group of prides appeared. “Fuckin’ great man…” he commented to himself as he began to slash down more of the prides.
Dante surged forward with one hard horizontal slash at one of the prides; it jumped back avoiding the hit. This was followed with a slash from a small demon with beady eyes and a dagger from behind that drew his attention. He immediately slashed it down and looked straight ahead again.
The demon-hunter’s eyes widened when five hell-lusts surged forward and pinned him to the wall with their scythes, letting out laughter of joy when more wraths appeared and walked towards him.
“Oh fuck…” Dante swore.
Just after those words were spoken, the three wraths closed in on him and detonated, causing shards of glass and metal to cut the half-demon deep and send him into unconsciousness.
