Chapter Two~ Krystal's Song
Chapter Two ~ Krystal's Song
I don't know what's worth fighting for
Or why I have to scream
I don't know why I instigate
Or why I say what I don't mean
I don't know how I got this way
I'll never be alright
So I'm breaking the habit
I'm breaking the habit
Tonight... -Linkin Park
The hours of the day seemed to stretch endlessly into eternity as Krystal laid in bed staring out the window. She had not moved from her bed since her arrival at the hospital three weeks before. The nurses were concerned about the young woman since she was eating and drinking very little. She had lost ten pounds off her five-foot-seven frame, which made her look very thin. Her thick, long brown-black hair made her pale skin look even more pasty white and her yellow-brown eyes seemed more haunting than usual.
She wore a pale blue long sleeved cotton top, heather grey leggings, and white slouch socks. The young woman had been wrapping up in blankets during the day and keeping the heat on in her room since her weight loss, so her mother had some warmer clothes brought up to the hospital. Krystal pulled the blankets up further and sighed deeply, trying desperately to ignore the monsters in her head who were taunting her.
"Time to rise and shine, Krissy," said the nurse as she entered the young woman's room carrying a tray of food. "I brought you some breakfast; bacon, eggs with cheese, toast, and orange juice."
Reluctantly, she sat up in her bed while the nurse set the tray on the table and placed it before her. Krystal stared at the plate of bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, and toast before her, not even making a move to pick up the fork.
"Aren't you hungry?"
The dark-haired beauty shook her head no and pushed the rolling table away then crossed her arms over her generous bosom. Though she had lost weight all over, her breast size hadn't budged one inch much to her chagrin.
"You need to eat, deary," the blonde haired nurse said as she fluffed Krystal's pillows. "My name is Julie, by the way, hun. The other nurse told me that you haven't talked since you've been here."
Krystal only nodded in response to Julie's statement, not meeting the older woman's gaze. "I'll leave your plate here so should you decide to eat it will be there for you." With that, she left the young woman alone with her thoughts and her misery.
Let me be the one you call
If you jump I'll break your fall
Lift you up and fly away with you into the night
If you need to fall apart
I can mend a broken heart
If you need to crash then crash and burn
You're not alone... - Savage Garden
Jin looked out the window of the jet, waiting for the control tower to give the pilot clearance for take off. Pulling his mobile phone from his coat pocket, he dialed the number to the hospital that Vonna had given him. "Oakwood Estates," a friendly female voice greeted him on the other end of the line.
"Yes, may I speak with Krystal Morrison in room 430," he replied in his heavily accented English.
"One moment please," answered the operator as she transferred his called to the room number he had given.
The phone rang five times before it was picked up but he heard no one give a greeting, so he spoke first. "Azure? It's me, Jin. Azure, if you're there please say somthing or press a button to let me know it's you."
Jin waited for several tense moment before he finally heard a long beep of a phone button being pressed. It was Krystal. "Vonna called me and told me that you were in the hospital and I was calling to see how you were doing. If you're fine, press two for yes. If you're not doing good, press once for no."
Another long beep followed by a short beep came, which Jin interpreted as a so-so answer. "I'm coming to New York to see you. I should be there in a few hours."
When he said that, he heard a sound that he had not expected to hear...a sob on the other end of the line. She was crying. Krystal was crying for him. "I will be there soon to see you. Just hold on for me, Azure. Hold on and don't let go."
