Chapter 2: Without Warning

Sora worked well into the evening after seeing his friends leave the restaurant. He was paid well that night and had a good amount of tips. Once he got home he began supper. That was the typical routine. His mother, Cecilia, worked later than he did. Even though Sora didn’t get to see his mom a lot, they got along really well. Cecilia supported Sora in everything he did. She was the one who made him feel like he was the luckiest kid alive. She made sure that Sora took part in the school fencing team and made sure that she took his shifts on tournament games. Even though they could barely afford everything, the extra money Sora made was put to all extra expenses.
That night, when Cecilia came home from work, she started to frantically put a whole bunch of belongings into her suit cases and any backpack that was around the house.
“Momma? What are you doing?” Sora asked as he watched his very frantic mother.
“Tonight angel, we’re leaving this god forsaken island.”
“Leave Star Island? But why?”
“Baby, I want you to listen to me carefully. The stars have been acting really weird lately. And I know this is a bad omen.”
“What’s going to happen?”
“150 years ago, a great tidal wave came and swept over Star Island and the little island you played on when you were a kid. Just before the tidal wave struck, starts began to move across the sky and switch places.”
“Switch places?” Sora asked confused. Cecilia only led her only son to a window and pointed towards the sky. And just were she pointed, three stars began to rotate in a clockwise direction. “Wholly shit!” Sora shouted and fell to his ass.
“Angel, don’t you use those words.”
“But they moved, mom!”
“I know sweetie… I know. It’s like a third passing ceremony.”
“Third passing ceremony?”
“My… what they don’t teach you in school…” Cecilia thought as she walked over to the couch and signaled Sora to come and sit beside her. Sora did as he was told and cuddled up next to his mom. “150 years ago, a deep darkness had spread from the hearts of many. You remember the story I always told you about the light in the darkness, right Sora?”
“Yes mom.”
“Well, it’s true. After that while though, darkness began to swallow worlds. Until a blade with mighty power restored the worlds from their darkened slumber…”
“And what’s that got to do with today? And our islands?”
“Well Sora, when some worlds began to disappear, a tsunami struck our islands with great force. Now… it’s been 150 years since that great wave. A third passing ceremony…”
“… So that means that a tsunami will strike? Oh god what are we gonna do!”
“We can either move from this island to another, or ride it out.”
Their small family chose to move… And quickly. The Everheart’s took on their move with Wakka and his family. Sora and Wakka’s parents tried to convince Tidus’, Kairi’s, and Selphie’s parents, but they all thought that what they were saying was nonsense… until it was too late.

Sora woke up screaming once again as images of the tidal wave crashed against Star Island and Destiny Island.
“Oh god this has gotta’ stop.” Sora said shaking his head. He looked over to his alarm clock that was glaring at him with beady digital eyes. “Better get up anyways.” Sora mumbled and crawled out of bed to have a nice warm shower. It was 5 am in the morning, Sora’s typical time to get up. After all, he worked full time at as many jobs as he could.
Sora stepped out of the shower and began to put in his removable piercings back in. It didn’t take him long to get ready, unless Wakka was the one up before him. But that wasn’t likely anymore.
The two both lived in an apartment together. Wakka worked as a body guard for clubs on weekends and was a tattoo and body piercing artist. He was the one who scorned Sora’s beautiful body, but he did it so he could always have something attached to him and remind him of his mom.
They both tried to keep the place as clean as they could. But that wasn’t hard because either of them was barely at home.
Sora grabbed a bowl and began to pour his ‘luck charms’ and started to eat his breakfast. He hadn’t even finished up to half his bowl when Wakka snatched it away from him.
“You know too much sugar is bad for you, ya?” Wakka pointed and began to finish Sora’s ‘un-healthy’ breakfast.
“Like I care. There are lots of things bad for you in this world. So why should you start with just that?” Sora snapped.
“Whoah, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, ya? Or did you have that dream again?” Wakka just retorted.
Sora just sat there in silence. He knew that Wakka said he wouldn’t ask him if he had ‘the dream’. ‘He promised…’ Wakka finally noticed the awkward silence Sora was giving him. He knew he shouldn’t have opened his big mouth. But… it was too late now.
“Listen man, I didn’t mean to talk about-”
“Oh bullshit, Wakka. You know better than to talk about ‘the dream’. Pfft… asshole.” Sora muttered and began to walk towards the door. “I’m going to work now.” Sora hastily walked out of the door with tears gathering out of his eyes.
“Sora… Sora!” Wakka chased after him but Sora almost broke into a run down the hallway.
“Just leave me alone!” Sora shouted at him as he tried to push open the door to the stair case. Wakka immediately caught up with him and forcefully spun him around to look at him.
“Sora, listen to me.” Wakka began to start as he bore into Sora’s eyes.
“No you listen to ME!” Sora barely shouted. “You KNOW that my memories tear me up more than anything. Especially when it comes to my fucking asshole of a father. What would you know about-“
“Sora! Man… don’t get too caught up in your fantasy man.”
“But it wasn’t my fantasy! If it was… fuck, my mother would still be alive!” Sora burst out crying and fell to his knees. ‘Why is he being such an asshole…?’ “And if there’s anyone too caught up in their fantasy it’d be you.”
Wakka just stood there, trying to slowly take in what Sora had said. It was true though. Ever since Wakka got word after the tidal wave hit, that Tidus was missing and presumed dead, all he ever thought was how one day he’d meet up with him again. They’d live together and no one would stop them from loving each other.
“Come on, man. You need some rest, ya? I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to go to work today.” He said in a calm tone. Wakka helped his little friend up, and just ended up carrying him back to his bed.
“Wakka?” Sora said softly as he turned to face him. His eyes were still a bit red from crying so much and he sniffled once in a while.
“Ya man?”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s ok man. Get some rest.” Wakka just said and closed Sora’s bedroom door.
