A Very Short Goodbye
Dr. Cain was in the lab putting the finishing touches to X's Buster, arming him with the last data chip he would receive before his most challenging mission yet.
"So I guess this only leaves one place to tackle...Sigma's Fortress."
The very words coming from X's mouth caused him to grit his teeth with anger. He still couldn't imagine someone he had so much respect for could become the very definition of everything X stood against.
"Yes X, that is true. But there are many levels to his massive fortress so you'd both better be on your guards! Here I found this while I was on my travels tying up loose ends from your missions."
Dr. Cain reached down under his computer console and placed a palm-sized device in X's hand.
"Hmm, looks similar to those old E-Tanks we've seen lying around."
Zero looked over at X spryly.
"Heh it was one of those old E-Tanks that saved your hide, if I do recall!"
"Now boys, enough. It's similar to an E-Tank but better suited to your physical needs, X. It's called a Sub-Tank. It'll bring you back to tip-top fighting power!"
X examined the small device like a child discovering a new toy.
"Sub-Tank, eh? Well with all the trouble I've been getting myself into, I see how this could come in handy."
Zero stiffened up and walked closer to X.
"Here's hoping we won't need to resort to life-saving devices again. Sigma is no joke. He's even amassed a small array of Maverick forces within his walls. And that damned force field he erected around the perimeter of his base forces us right through the front door!"
Dr. Cain smiled and sat in his chair oh so calmly.
"Then I guess there's only one thing to do in that situation...knock and walk on in."
A sudden burst of energy came over Zero.
"Finally! We've found Sigma's Fortress! Let's go in and put an end to his war against the humans!"
The two Hunters gave each other a look of serious determination and nodded a hearty "yes" to their trusted mentor and guide. X took the Sub-Tank and lodged it into his chest armor where it sat, waiting for the moment when it would come in handy. In the back of their minds they knew they had Sting Chameleon to deal with, a slew of new Maverick forces, and most of all Sigma. Without another word, the two Hunters teleported to Sigma's Fortress.
