Chapter 15
Hal nuzzled him softly and held him. "You'll be ok..?"
"I'll live." He muttered, reaching down to touch the man's abdomen again. This seemed strange to him still.
"I hope not." He said, absently exploring the area as if it could give him any answers. "How long?"
"Little over a month.." Hal replied. "That's only a guess.."
"Ah" He muttered again, wondering about this all again.
"He said I can go home tomorrow.." Hal replied running his fingers through Dave's hair. "They want to keep an eye on the fever I had when you brought me in.."
"I see." He said, calmer with the movements Hal was doing on his hair as he closed his eyes and leaned towards the man's body.
"I knew you wouldn't want to leave me so they gave me one of these bigger beds so you could sleep next to me.." Hal smiled kissing Dave's forehead.
"I can' leave you, no." Snake clarified as he kissed Hal in return a little possessively.
Hal laughed softly and nodded. "I'm glad.."
As the shock was slowly passing Snake was left with some questions here and there and a lot of things to think about, however at a crossroad like this there was something that most permeated with him as he looked Hal over and noticed he hadn't removed his hand from his abdomen. 'He's my best friend.' he thought, 'and he's having a kid', then he leaned to kiss him 'and I love him'.
Hal smiled tiredly and kissed him back. He put his hand on top of Snake's and ran his fingers over it. "I-I'm a little scared.." he said softly.
"Natural... Then so am I." He said, not even sure how to go about this or where to go from here. He just leaned his forehead against Hal's neck and breathed steadily against his temple.
Hal bit his lip. "I-I never meant to scare you.." He said softly
"Stop apologizing, Hal." he said. Even if he knew he wasn't exactly a nice person he didn't need Hal reminding him the kind of bastard he was deep down by apologizing for things like these. "Besides, this needs to work." somewhere in his logic he knew his life couldn't be this cruel.
Hal nodded. "Y-yeah.." he said sniffling a little trying not to start crying. He hated feeling as if he was forcing Snake into this.
"What happened?" Snake asked immediately.
"N-nothing.." Hal replied
"That doesn't seem to be 'nothing' to me... Jesus Hal, I think you can tell me by now." He said, after all, they were about an average of eight months of being a family of more than two by now Hal COULD talk to him. 'Am I that bad?!' he thought without letting that show.
Hal looked at his hands. "I-I want you to be happy and I don't want you to feel tied down.."
"The thought of being tied down hasn't crossed my mind in years. If you asked me this years ago when you first called me to make Philanthropy I would have said that maybe a child was a little too hardcore for me at the time... now..." What now? He started thinking about what he'd tell Hal next and noticed how saying this made his feelings automatically follow.
"Now what?" Hal asked laying back against the pillows. He knew years ago the thought of having a baby would not have set well with either of them.
"Now it's... something else." he said, keeping this to himself still, at least for now.
Hal looked at him. "I want you to keep doing your job.."
"I'll do whatever you tell me to at this point, Hal." He said, slowly and hesitantly leaning to observe this from closer. He couldn't see much now and it still seemed a little... surreal... to him for now.
Hal nodded and held Dave's hand. "We're in this together as always.." he said smiling.
"That's good to know."
Hal nodded. "Yeah.." He laughed a little.
Snake slowly leaned and hesitantly he managed to find the guts to plant a kiss over Hal's abdomen as if it had been a particularly difficult stunt.
Hal smiled and watched him. "You're going to be fine.."
"Hmmm." He agreed, repeating the action more confidently now.
Hal laughed and ran his hand through Dave's hair.
