Riku's Determination

It had been a few hours since Sora had left the palace to seek his brother’s advice in the Village of Raith. Those few hours were some of the longest for the young prince as he lay in the western gardens, gazing up at the sky. Birds had perched themselves in the surrounding flora and began to sing their song’s. A sigh escaped the silver haired man’s lips as he closed his eyes. He had thought about getting Merlin to bring him to Raith in the first two hours of the brunette’s leave, but knew better then to ask that. Merlin wouldn’t have allowed such and most likely have received a long talk.

‘If Sora agrees to take this journey then, no matter what, I am joining him. I won’t let him out of my life and I will protect him. If I am to protect him then I will need to master the sword as best as I can in this week,’ Riku thought as he sat up. ‘I will train very hard this week with Leon and Yen Sid, I will master what I can to better help Sora on his journey.’ He decided. Standing up he looked towards the wide garden once more before racing to find his two teachers.

“I didn’t agree to that!” Came the disgruntled voice of the one and only Leon.

Riku poked his head around the door to find a pouting Kairi.

“Leon! You’re supposed to be a supportive big brother and to help me!”

“I’m not going to be a doll for you to dress up. I said I would help you with the materials,” Leon answered with his arms crossed and his stormy gray eyes narrowed slightly.

“Tsk.”

“I don’t respond to those childish antics either.”

Riku knocked the door before Kairi could retort and broke the starting fight. Both siblings turned to look at their friend as he walked into the room. Kairi gave a grin and started to speak, most likely to ask Riku if he could become the doll but Riku started before she had a chance to.

“Leon, I need help improving what I can with the sword before Sora returns.”

“What?” Leon raised his eyebrow, slightly shocked.

“Well I’ve decided that if Sora goes on the journey to become a Great Magus then I will be joining him, to help protect him. To do so I need to better master the sword.”

“Are you sure you want to go on that journey Riku?” Kairi asked, taken aback as well

“Positive and in this week I will be training hour after hour with Leon and Yen Sid if you and Magister Yen Sid agree to help.’

“Yes. If you are so determined on doing this, I will train you so you don’t get yourself or others killed.”

“Thanks,” Riku grinned at his friend and teacher of weapons. The tall brunette gave the slightest of smiles.

“We will begin now.” Leon quickly announced as he walked from the design room. Kairi pouted and grumbled something about Leon just wanting to get away from being the doll.

“Take your stance,” Leon commanded the prince as he drew the sword.

Riku took his stance and focused all his concentration on Leon. In a second the fight began with Leon taking the first strike. Riku used to be caught off guard with the speed the tall man used but now was quite used to it and mastered the speed himself. Leon had told Riku time and time again that he was a quick learner and the young magus was quickly becoming a master of the sword but there were still certain things the Riku had yet to learn fully.

The sound of blade hitting echoed across the training grounds as the two fought. Leon quickly struck low and Riku blocked but lost his balance when Leon used the prince’s weight against him by bringing the blade backwards quickly. Riku landed on his back and lost his handle on the sword, letting his slide away. Leon brought the edge of the sword to Riku’s throat and claimed victory in the first match.

For the next three hour’s Riku was taught how to master one technique at a time but only managed to learn one fully. By the end, both were tired and sweating, so they left for more training for later in the evening. Riku thanked his teacher and left the training arena after placing his practice sword back in its rightful place. He made it back to his bedroom and entered the washroom. He stripped himself of his garments and turned on the shower, letting his heat up before stepping in.

‘I can do this. I will do this. This is for not only Sora but myself as well. I can become a master at the sword. I’m almost there, I just need to master a few more fighting techniques then it’ll be over. Then I will properly be able to practice with Leon without falling on my ass every fifteen minutes.’ Riku thought to himself as he let his muscles relax in the heat before washing himself.

When he was done he dried himself, then wrapped a towel around his waist and walked into his bedroom. He took a few loose clothes he used for training and dressed himself. Then he left the room to find Yen Sid.

An hour found Riku in the southern gardens, a big garden full of flora and fauna and trees. They left the courtyard because there had been a few gardeners there. Now Riku was learning how to trap different objects in a ball of air and how to control the air pressures. Yen Sid was pleased by his student’s progress. Riku had the need to protect Sora to fuel his learning. By sunset Riku had learned how to lower and elevate the air pressures and how to trap objects of a small to medium size in an air bubble.

His teacher promised him that he would learn teleportation over the next few days. How to travel further and further without damaging himself. The evening proved to be a bit boring to the young prince, that was until the next sparring session with Leon. Riku got down the fighting technique Leon had been teaching him all day. By the night Riku showered once more before going to bed, pleased that he had learned so much in the first day.
