“Kane wake up!!!” Alex pulled his lithe form to her chest, which was heaving from the sobs that wracked her small frame. “Please wake up…”

It was getting dark now and colder by the second but Alex refused to go and try to find Ciera that would mean leaving Kane. She had screamed for Ciera until her voice was too hoarse to scream anymore. Alex was sitting with Kane’s mutilated body pulled in her lap a position that was oddly familiar.

***

“Shit!” Ciera cursed angrily, side stepping another unturned root of the tropical forest. She had been searching for a few hours now and was now completely freaked out. ‘Why weren’t they where Syrean said they’d be?! The place around the cliff isn’t THAT big for them to get lost!’ She shoved through a thicket of branches, wincing as it scraped the lavender skin of her exposed legs.

‘I should’ve been there when they fell.” Ciera mentally kicked herself but in reality what could’ve she done? She had a freakin bull of a tiger trying to maul her when they had fallen! ‘Her blood is on my hands if they should be…’ Ciera shook her head vigorously clearing such gruesome thoughts from her mind.

The night elf thought of Alex like her child so you can imagine the kind of dilemma she was now in. ‘My fault if she dies….’ Growling she pushed ahead into the gloomy forest that was now well into night.

***

Alex shook him again,” Wake up please! Wake up!”

‘WAKE UP DADDY!!!’

Crying out Alex clutched her red hair with a hand wincing as her child hood reflected on the present.

‘It’s my fault… had he been focusing on where he was going he wouldn’t have been shot from the back.’ Alex could see herself a few years prior crying and hugging Ciera.

“My fault….always people die to protect me...” Alex whimpered and buried her face in Kane’s cool neck. ”I’m sorry…”

‘I couldn’t do anything but lay there crying like a baby!’ Her younger self’s voice echoed through her mind.

“I’m so sorry...” Alex dug her finger nails into Kane’s shoulders.

She was so tired, she just wanted to sleep a bit then maybe this could all go away…’I don’t want them to find me anymore…’ Alex pushed herself on her hands and knees covered in Kane’s blood and stared down in his face.

‘I will stay with you until I repay my debt!’ Kane’s voice ran through her mind. ‘Even if I die!’ Alex winced as the memories of him and she played like a movie in her mind’s eye. She reached back down and pulled him to her again crying all the harder.

A warm light began to form in the center of her chest rising up and out then began to hover above the two. Other smaller glowing things rose from the wild grass that resembling fireflies only they glowed purple and bright yellow. Another ball of light appeared above the first and started to twirl with the first one and the firefly light things started to circle Alex and Kane slowly picking up speed as the two bigger balls of light above them picked up speed till the lights were a blear around them.

*CRACK*

‘What the hell?!’ Ciera snapped her head to the far right toward the loud noise. Jumping up on to a high branch she started leaping tree to tree toward the noise.

“Hold on Alex…” Ciera picked up speed at the sight of a bright glowing light just up ahead. ”Hold on..”

***

The lights were now spinning almost in a frantic fashion around the two broken lover’s when Ciera stumbled into the scenery

“Alex! Kane!” Ciera started forward but another blinding flash of light stopped her.

Ciera gasped and shielded her sensitive eyes from the flashes, confused as hell on what was happening. The flashes stopped and the balls of light returned to their swirling as they slowed gradually. The startled elf slowly lowered her arms and stared in disbelief at Alex. Her fiery hair was billowing about her face, even though there was no wind and her eyes were glued down on Kane’s face almost as if she was oblivious of the chaos that was happening around her.

“Alex!” Ciera started forward again only to be halted once more by a firm hand on her shoulder.

“Don’t you’ll interrupt the \Light.” Syrean’s voice warned from behind her.

“But…what’s happening?” Ciera looked back at Syrean finding Rolic there as well; he looked just as astonished as Ciera felt.

“She’s performing the soul binding spell…” Rolic gasped.

“The what?!” Ciera looked back at her friend even more confused then before.

“She’s binding her soul to Kane’s.” Syrean said in a ‘matter of fact’ way.

“Then that means Kane is dead…” Rolic confirmed.

“What?!” Ciera tried to pull away from Syrean but the undead held tightly.

“If we have any hope of him coming back it’s through what Alex is doing right now! Don’t interfere!” Strean growled and Ciera stopped her struggles immediately.

The first ball of light whet back into Alex’s chest and the second one, that had appeared from the sky slowly descended into Kane’s chest. The small firefly like lights stopped swirling and lowered back into the grass as the warm light faded slowly away back into gloom. Alex reached out with a trembling hand and placed it on Kane’s cheek looking at him in desperation.

“Kane…..?” She whispered barley audible.

Nothing….he didn’t move and his skin was still cool and his form still stiff. Whimpering in anguish Alex reached down to her waist belt and pulled out the dagger that had killed her mother and that orc. She positioned it againced her belly and closed her eyes feeling an over whelming amount of peace the dagger promised with just a simple movement. She was never granted that escape however; a strong hand grabbed her small one and pulled the dagger out of her grasp.

Surprised she looked at the hand that held her own so firmly and froze, lavender skin. Jerking her head up she started crying again at the wonderful sight. Kane had his silvery eyes open and was looking at her with deep worry; his lips were set in a frown.

“Kane..?” Alex pulled him in a tight hug.

“Looks like I owe you another debt…” He whispered chuckling warmly as he wrapped his arms around Alex.

“No you don’t.” Alex pulled back and pressed her lips to his gently before pulling back again. “That’s the best thing about love, there are no debts.”

***

“OK explain it again!” Ciera threw her arms up exaggeratedly.

“AGAIN???!!” The other four exclaimed in annoyance.

“YES AGAIN!!!” Ciera slapped Kalin as he nipped at her hand playfully.

“ARGHHHH!! Ok this is the last time you lame ass!” Alex punched the night elf in the arm. “When a holy user loses someone they simply cannot live with out they can try to perform ‘The spell of binding.’”

“The spell is almost impossible to perform because getting permission to resurrect someone from the Light is extremely improbable. The Light must believe that the person the caster wants to save is completely worthy.” Syrean said helping Alex with the explanation.

“So the caster has to use spirit energy to call their spirit out of themselves to call on the loved one’s soul. Then the binding begins where the caster’s soul gives half of it’s spirit force to the dead one and intern takes half of the other’s dead life force into it’s self. That’s why they called it ‘Binding’.” Alex finished panting from talking so much.

“This means that we’d better get use to her presence.” Syrean said sarcastically.

“Why?” Ciera asked baffled.

“Because since me and Kane’s soul’s are bound together I die when he dies.” Alex pumped a fist in the air dramatically.

“Oh no…” Ciera looked horrified.

“OH YES! IM GONNA BE LIVING AS LONG AS YOU UPTIGHT NIGHT ELFS!” Alex grabbed Kane and started to do a little jig with him.

“Elune help us all.” Ciera put her face in her hands and sobbed.

“Hell yes we are gonna partay tonight!” Kane spun Alex around and continued to do their obnoxious dance.

“I need the shirt ‘I’m Surrounded by Idiots.’” Syrean said miserable, looking at the two, hiding her smile.

“So what do we do now mon?” Rolic asked Ciera who was yelling at the two to stop.

“Well isn’t it obvious?” Ciera said looking up at the troll with a half smile.

“What?”

“We make a great team so let’s continue that way!” Alex cheered giving Kane a high five.

“You mean ‘quest’ together?” Syrean asked a bit taken aback. No one had trusted her and Rolic like that since the incident with Alex.

“Yup!” Ciera smiled at the two.

“But what if…” Rolic started to protest but was stopped by Syrean elbowing him.

“Are you sure? You mean permanently?” Syrean asked hopefully. With a permanently group she and Rolic could survive and be protected.

“Yes permanently!” Alex started to jig again and Kane followed her.

“Then we leave in 3 days to Felwood to start questing!” Ciera cheered getting up and joining Alex and Kane in their jig around Booty Bay’s bar.

“Wundafull now I am stuck with yo all until da day I die.” He slumped in a chair.

Alex shoved Kane into a bar stool and challenged him to a drinking game. She blushed when he made a crack about what had happened last time but persisted.

“Great I have to but up with this for the next 7,000 years.” Ciera smiled and joined their game.

Alex smiled looking at her odd new family.
