The Book of Dead
dense was the darkness, light there was none,
neither what lies ahead nor behind does it allow him to see.
Nine leagues he traveled... the North Wind.
It licked at his face,
dense was the darkness, light there was none,
neither what lies ahead nor behind does it allow him to see.
Ten leagues he traveled...

He was frozen over. His mind, his heart, his soul, his body. Every aspect of *him* was frozen and numb. He could hear nothing. He could feel nothing.

Only silence and cold.

It had been ages since he had quit counting the days, weeks, months. There was no point in it, counting the time that was slipping away from him. He was frozen. He was mindless. He... was... dead...

Nothing touched him. He could not hear the voices, noises around him. His ice-blue, ice-cold lips did not open to allow words, breaths to escape from their cage. Trapped. Frozen over. Silent. Dead.

His mind was lingering still on this world from which he desired to escape. He was not allowed to go on to the Beyond. But he was frozen, silent and nothing changed that.

The time went on, passing over him, but he did not move, change, live within it like others did. He existed outside the time, the flow. He was frozen over, silent trapped, *dead*.

Nothing in him changed. And in a way he found that very comforting. As long as nothing changed, nothing was lost into the time. There would be no past, no future to him, for him.

The touch on his skin was burning hot, painful reminder that he was not in the world beyond. It felt like liquid fire, corrosive acid would have been poured over his skin, soul, mind. He raised his head to meet the scorching eyes of his capturer, his protector.

He saith:
Let my heart be with me in the House of Hearts.
Let my heart-case be with me in the House of heart-cases.
Let my heart be with me, and let it rest in [me or].

[...]

Let me ascend into heaven,
let that which I command be performed in Het-ka-Ptah.
I know how to use my heart.
I am master of my heart-case.
I am master of my hands and arms.
I am master of my legs.

The Haven of Ice shattered. The Lock of the Prison opened. The Death was Overcome and he was Reborn. The Heaven of Silence disappeared.

To be said:
The god Ptah shall open my mouth,
and the god of my town shall unfasten the swathings, the swathings which are over my mouth.
Thereupon shall come Thoth,
who is equipped with words of power in great abundance,
and shall untie the fetters, even the fetters of the god Set which are over my mouth.
And the god Tem shall cast them back at those who would fetter me with them, and cast them at him.

Then shall the god Shu open my mouth,
and make an opening into my mouth
with the same iron implement wherewith he opened the mouth of the gods.

Only the touch of that gaze. Only for that person... he would rise like a phoenix from the ashes. Only the touch of that gaze. Only those eyes were able to give him back to his freedom, to only tie him down with ever-binding chains of silver and silk.

The Osiris Ani, whose word is truth, saith:
I am the holy lotus
that cometh forth from the light
which belongeth to the nostrils of Ra,
and which belongeth to the head of Hathor.
I have made my way, and I seek after him, that is to say, Horus.
I am the pure lotus
that cometh forth from the field [of Ra].

But even when he held his head high, nothing changed the fact that he wished for a life he could live just for himself. But he never even once thought that these ties that bind him to the other were unpleasant.
