JA2 Chapter 12

Day 23: San Mona

“Let’s move out.”

The last twenty-four hours had been relatively sedate for Kilroy’s crew; Tony was in and strangely both of his ‘pets’ were missing. Kilroy was relieved that Terror didn’t speak out of turn in front of the arms dealer but Terror did tease Hans a bit. She wanted to know if Hans had the eagle or peacock on his left buttock. The rest of their time was spent sleeping and repairing their equipment. In her conversations with Sierra, it was agreed that repairing armor was a losing venture, it took way to long, cost was prohibitive in shipping new sets of armor and the mechanics would be better off allocating their resources elsewhere; like liberating Arulco.

Igor showed up just before noon and after kitting him out with a Mini-14 with match grade ammo and a 7xBattlescope, they were ready to move. Kilroy was expecting orders to march to Cambria to join Sierra’s crew in liberating the central town and was pleasantly surprised when Sierra had directed them to take out the Chitzena SAM site instead. Terror of course was ecstatic. They were to travel to the south of the SAM site and rest until morning to begin their assault. Before they arrived at their launch point word was received that the army was on the move.

Sierra had purposely stayed at the road junction between Drassen, Cambria and Alma in the hopes that they could intercept whatever reprisal the army was going to send to the recently captured Drassen SAM site where the inept Biff and Flo were trying to train the militia. The army general sent a squad of eight elite mercenaries who by passed the roadblock Sierra’s crew were manning. When Miguel’s runners confirmed that the soldiers had made it past them, Sierra sent warning to Biff, who wanted to know when she was going to rescue them. When Sierra informed Biff that he was going to have to do his job and lead the militiamen that they were training in defense of the SAM site, she felt she was signing his and Flo’s death warrant.

Trying to be the professional, Sierra moved her squad onward towards Cambria, with any luck, they would show up on the outskirt of town while it was still light. On the march, she talked to Gus about their status and requested he hit Bobby Ray up for some supplies; specifically more forty mike mike grenades for Big Al and an underbarrel launcher for Grunty, one that would fit the HK series of battle rifles. Gus had mentioned that Sierra might want to convert over to the latest and greatest craze sweeping the mercenary world, the new 6.8mm Special Purpose Cartridge round. Sierra said that she would think about switching after they took Cambria and its central SAM site.

When her comms lit up with Biff and Flo’s screams, Sierra called a rest, so she could better hear what was happening while an ice grip on her heart made her dread the worst. Big Al wanted to know if anyone wanted to bet him if Biff pissed his pants. When Robber made a joke that the bet should be whether or not they survive or not, Sierra barked at them.

“WHAT IF IT WAS THE TWO OF YOU DEFENDING THE SITE? WOULD YOU LIKE US TO BE BETTING IF YOU LOST? Yes, they both should not be here. They both are a hazard to their health and ours while they are here, but Gus brought them here and they are on OUR side. Like it or not. So you might want to consider that before you open your mouth about them next time. Now shut up, I am trying to listen.”

When Sara looked down at her lap while closing her eyes and placing her hands over her right ear that held her comm speaker, she couldn’t believe that she was defending those two morons. Losing Dimitri was bad and she worried how the crew’s morale would react if one or both of them were lost at the Drassen SAM site. Ira just lost Dimitri and she didn’t know those two, could she get any worst? A quick glance at the New Yorker showed her sitting with a blank face, cleaning her Mini-14 in a sure, almost robotic fashion.

The second battle of the Drassen SAM site was not going well. The Queen’s mercenaries had a sniper with them who was chewing up the green militiamen defending with Biff and Flo. Sierra was pleased that the two of them had followed her instructions and climbed on top of the roof of the control building; she thought she heard Flo remind Biff prior to having to berate her squad mates.

A chill ran down Sara’s back when she heard Flo response to a soldier she had just killed. “Ohh, I killed him. That was better than an orgasm!” One more deranged, deluded mercenary was making Arulco crowded with crazies. Robber, of course couldn’t let her comment pass. “If she wants a real orgasm, she shouldn’t be hanging out with little dicks like Biff!” Sara noticed that he didn’t mention that a ‘real French man’ like him could please the plain French girl, perhaps because he had spent most of his young adult life in the States and not France.

From what Sara could discern, the army mercenaries had split into two; five were assaulting the main gate, with sniper support while three had split off and were flanking from the east. Biff and Flo with four militiamen were defending against the flankers leaving by Sara’s count 16 militiamen against the front five. 16 green militiamen against 5 black shirt elites was not what Sara considered a fair fight.

Since neither Flo nor Biff commented on what was happening at the front gate Sara could only follow the flank attack, which had not started well. Biff had squealed about how they weren’t going to make it when the second of the four militiamen on the flank was down and a third one was getting chewed up.

“I did good!” was screamed by Flo, Sara hoped that meant that she capped a second soldier. Twenty seconds later Biff was heard asking, “Did I do that?” and all Sara could think was that he DID sound like Urkel, but she was relieved that the flank attack had failed.

When Biff asked Flo if they should get down off of the control roof to help out the attack against the gate, Sara wanted to scream. She told them to stay up on the roof at all cost. Defend the roof and the advantage was theirs. When Biff called for guidance, Sara shocked herself with her answer. “If you think you can help the militiamen, then do so, if not maintain your position.”

Flo responded that she couldn’t see anyone except dead and dying militia. That was enough for Biff to think with his dick and not his slightly bigger head. The fucker just had to be a hero in Flo’s dimwitted eyes. “Well, let’s see if we can help a bit. You go behind the right gate post and I will take the left.” No you moron, you are making the wrong decision! But thirty seconds later it was Biff again asking if he had just killed the female black clad merenary.

What happened next was confusing and Sara wasn’t able to get a clear picture until after the battle was over. With Biff and Flo moving up behind them, the milita rushed the three surviving elites. Although the militia was down to half their number, one of the three black clad merc’s broke and ran while the other two stood their ground or rather stayed where they were lying prone and continued to fight. Biff helped dispatch one of the two while Flo surprised Biff and chased after the one that was running. Biff gave chase after Flo and it was close a mile away before the soldier stopped, turned around and shot Flo. Flo was able to hold off the last soldier until Biff arrived flanking. Flo’s wound was not fatal, the bullet struck her in the chest, were her Kevlar armor stopped most of it. Biff was eager to help remove the bullet that was probably going to leave a scar making it appear Flo had a third nipple.

Back at the SAM site, the two inept MERCS forgot to switch off the voice activation on their comms and broadcast their after battle actions; Flo wanted to concentrate on training more militia while Biff was intent on fondling her chest using the feeble excuse that he was making sure Flo didn’t get an infection. Flo repeatedly told Biff of her fear that an army reprisal attack was imminent but didn’t tell Biff to stop his fondling. After only a few beleaguering minutes Sara finally called over the comms to remind them to turn off their voice activation when they were not in combat.

Sierra’s squad made good time and arrived at Cambria at 18:34 with plenty of light to commence action. Sneaking into the town, they deployed behind the houses on the southeastern side of the sector. It wasn’t until Big Al and Sierra was getting ready to climb to the roof of the restaurant across from the drugstore that they were detected. A soldier had seen them and instead of calling alarm or firing his AEK-919K “Kashtan” auto pistol, he ran after Big Al with a huge knife, obviously thinking he was Rambo. It was the brak-brak-brak of Ira firing her Mini-14 that alerted Big Al and Sierra to the danger.

“Holy SHIT!” Big Al screamed as he saw the soldier just over 10 meters away from him driving at them with his ready knife. Ira had only hit him one of the three shots she fired; both Sierra and Big Al fired a snap shot, Sierra’s missed while Big Al’s bounced off of the soldier’s armor. It was Robber who saved Big Al from being shish-kebob’ed, stepping behind Ira he raised his scoped FAMAS, firing a single shot before moving towards covering the eastern flank.

Once up on the roof, Sierra had her hands full since the army counter attack was apparently coming through the alley behind the restaurant. Big Al dropped two in front of the restaurant but he did not see the two hiding in the bushes directly below him. Ira saw one of them and rushed forward for a better shot, only to be shot her self. The second soldier was auto firing a silenced FAMAE SAF Silenciada SMG and she was hit three times before she was able to locate him.

Hamous had moved to assist Sierra in the back alleyway and Robber feeling left out, moved to support Ira. The usefulness of armor was again shown, especially against the underpowered 9mm ammo. If Ira had been hit by a true assault rifle in all likelihood she would have been dead instead of suffering the bruises and scratches.

When the sector was cleared, Sierra had to ask the local’s if they would be willing to volunteer for militia training. It was Keith, the proprietor of local general store who pointed out that the Cambrian’s wouldn’t trust the liberators until more of Cambria was under their command. This told Sierra that they had to press the offensive and consolidate later. While she was tending to Ira’s cuts and bruises, Big Al with Hamous and Robber were looking for other possible resources the sector may had to offer when two patrols attacked within minutes of each other. Reinforcements arriving way to late and with way too few in number.

Robber did find one possible resource; Perko. Sara hated him as soon as she met him. If he lived back in the States he would still be living in his mother’s basement whacking off to his collection of National Geographic’s. Robber understood that Perko’s service could be viable and asked him to repair the Twylon helmets that Robber hadn’t been able to. Perko agreed after taking payment but screamed at Sierra when she asked him to repair the Spectra helmet and Twaron pants first. “I’m fucking busy here! Why don’t you make like a jungle bunny and FUCK OFF!”

The spittle coming from his mouth splashed all across Sierra’s face and her blood ran red. Here she was in this god-forsaken country, trying to help them out and locals like him were giving her shit. Big Al had noticed the exchange and before Sierra could say anything the huge dark skinned man had scooped her up by her armpits and was carrying her out of the repair shop.

“Put me the fuck down Al. And get the rest of the squad ready to move. They attacked from the west, the sector that the all too late reinforcements came from; that meant that sector’s army soldiers should be depleted. So we are going to take the north east sector and work our way around.”
