Leaving Validus Palace

‘I have the privilege to become a Great Magus…but what happens if I don’t survive Animus? What if the Temple Guardian is to strong…’ Sora sighed as he starred up at the blue skies from where he lay in the tall grass. ‘I need my brothers help…I just need his help…I can’t fully decided yet…alright, that’s what I need to do, I need to return to Raith.’ A smile fell upon him as he sat up, his decision made. He didn’t notice the person standing behind him until their shadow engulfed his form.

“Thinking about still?” The empress stood behind him, a smile across her face. She walked beside the younger boy and sat down, wrapping her arms around her knees and rested her chin on top of them. She had changed into a simpler dress that Sora didn’t think she would ever have. It was a simple light pink dress that flowed elegantly and was held up by two thin straps.

“I’ve made my decision Empress Lillian.”

“Please, just call me Areith. I would prefer it from now on.”

“Alright...Areith. I can’t decide this all on my own, so I’ve decided to go see my brother about it. I know Cloud would be able to give me the advice and answer I’m searching for.”

“Oh, where does he live right now?”

“Raith, our home village. Its a few day’s from where I live now but I’m willing to go and visit him there.”

“Hmm,” Areith looked out into nothingness as she buried herself in thought. “You should go, Sora. You shouldn’t even have to wait. I believe you should ask Magister Merlin to bring you there; it would be easy for him. Then you can decide with your brother and Merlin will stay here for a while.”

“You think it would be a bother?”

“Not at all. I want you to be completely sure about this decision Sora. When I had it, I wanted it. I left it behind because of my love for Sephiroth. I’m not regretful for the life I have chosen, but I always wondered how my life would have turned out to be if I had become a Great Magus.”

“I don’t know if I would regret it…”

“Let’s go speak with Merlin right now and figure everything out,” Areith smiled sweetly at the younger boy and stood up. She held out her hand to him and helped him stand up. Together they left the garden and went to find Merlin.

“Cloud? Well…I don’t see why not. That boy has a head on his shoulders, maybe it would be good for you to see him about this path,” Merlin nodded with a joking tone to his last statement.

“Hey, I know what you just implied there! I have a head on my shoulders as well.” Sora pouted at this as he crossed his arms

“Of course, of course. You wouldn’t have made it this far if you didn’t and you won’t go any further if you don’t get more sense into you either,” Merlin chuckled as he tapped Sora’s head with his wand. This only made Sora’s pout deepen as he gave his teacher a small glare.

“After you bring him there then you should stay with us for the rest for the week. Then Sora can be brought here and we will make the decision,” Areith smiled at her old teacher.

“Yes, I definitely will. Now, we should go get you packed Sora. We will be leaving soon.”

“Oh! Wait, um I have to go do something. I’ll get packed though.” Sora said as he quickly made his way to the door

“One hour Sora! Then meet me at the entrance!” Merlin called after the boy

Sora had heard what his Magister had called out but didn’t have time to stop and be polite. He’d be gone for the next five days and he wanted to tell Riku himself. He ran through the halls, remembering the way to Riku’s room. He bumped and nearly ran over a few people as he made his way. Excitement ran through him, as he would be seeing Cloud in only a few hours. A grin formed on his face, his eyes sparkling with happiness as he turned the last corner and threw open the prince’s bedroom doors.

A loud bang echoed throughout the chambers and hall as Sora bounded into the middle of the room. He panted for air as he placed his hands on his knees. Riku starred at him from his place on the couch, his eyebrow slightly raised as he noticed the grin on the boy’s face. Slowly he closed the book and waited for Sora to regain his bearing. Slowly the younger male regained himself and quickly made his way over to the couch to stand in front of the silver haired prince.

“I’m going for five days,” Sora said while Riku’s eyes widened slightly, “I’ve decided that I have to speak to my brother about this matter. He’s always given me the right direction to my future and now I need his advice again.” As Sora explained this Riku eyes regained their normal size. He nodded to Sora’s reason; he placed his book on the table and pulled Sora down onto his lap.

“I hope he’s able to give you the right direction then. Where’s Raith situated?”

“Um…about six miles from the Nocturne Sea.”

“Hmm…” Riku thought to himself, his eyes looking down at the carpet as Sora looked at him with a curious gaze.

“What?”

“Huh? Oh, nothing. Five days?” Riku looked up at Sora with a deep gaze as he wrapped his arms around the smaller boy in a protective and loving manner.

“Yeah then I’ll be coming back.”

Riku leaned up to capture the boy’s lips in a short but loving kiss. Sora smiled as he kissed his new love back. Riku stood up while bringing Sora to his feet.

“Then I’ll help you pack.”

An hour saw Merlin and Sora at the palace entrance with the empress, prince and Yen Sid seeing them off. Sora held a bag with his clothing inside and a grin on his face. Merlin grabbed Sora’s arm and the younger boy grabbed the Magister’s in turn. Both held on tight as the familiar feel of compression and pulling tore at the younger brunet. In moments it was gone, when he regained his senses he noticed he was standing at the outskirts of the Village Raith. Few people were coming and going, mostly merchants or farmers bringing in their goods. They looked in surprise as the two sorcerers appeared out of nowhere but soon the surprise and shock wore off and they went back about their business.

“Well, I will bring you back in five day’s dear boy,” Merlin smiled as Sora gave a nod, “I will go to your brothers house to retrieve you. Good day my boy.” With that the Magister disappeared in a small but powerful gust of wind. Sora starred for a few moments where his teacher left him then turned around to the village he knew as home. Happiness swept over him as he gazed upon the village.
