JA2 Chapter 11
Day 22: Chitzena
“So are we ready yet?”
“We are Terror, so you can get your panties out of a bunch.”
“I don’t have any panties on; Gillie tore my last pair of thongs off of me last night.”
“Well, then I am glad you are doing your job keeping the morale high.”
“Hell, that wasn’t me, Robber was keeping my morale high! So, do we get to take out the Chitzena SAM site or not?”
After spending the last three days in Chitzena training new militiamen due to combat loss, Terror had been lobbying strongly for the four of them to take down the local SAM site. By her reasoning, with Kilroy, Gillie and Grunty backing her, they couldn’t fail. But Sierra hadn’t signed off on that order yet. She said she was mulling over it. Terror thought she mulled entirely too much.
“She hasn’t decided yet. I think she wants Gus to send us one more able body.”
“So long as it isn’t a stick in the mud like the last two.”
“I hear you on that one and so does Sierra. She is still pissed that Gus sent them. Sierra requested someone like Bull or Igor, so long as he is done mourning his Uncle’s death.”
“Hey, I hear Bull has a real big one, that could work.”
“Well since you liked that news, let me give you the bad news.”
“You know, I don’t like your tone there missy.”
“Good, we are making yet another supply run to Tony’s.”
“Fuck, what is it with Sierra sending me to see that fat slob. Every time I see him, the urge to free his ‘pets’ gets stronger!”
“I will agree with you on that, but right now Tony and his two pets are a necessary evil. Sort of like my hearing about how your pussy talks to you.”
“But she does! She is very insistent about always needing to petted!”
“What EVER! Let’s load up.” Grunty and Gillie had been sitting there eating an early lunch listening to the two female mercenaries talk like they weren’t even there, the fact that they didn’t try to join in the conversation helped.
They were still close to being three hours away from San Mona when their comms flailed with static. Their comms were supposed to have the range to reach from the two farthest corners of Arulco, but they had quickly learned that communication from Drassen to Chitzena strained the comms.
“…I’m hit…” That was Robber. The battle was at the junction were the road from Drassen to Alma joined the road to Cambria, which was the destination of Sierra’s squad.
Sierra apparently liked the Knight 25 sniper rifle because she was doing a good job imitating Kilroy with the headshots. Miguel’s runners had confirmed that the patrol only numbered eight and by Terror’s count, six had already been dispatched and Sierra was ordering Robber and Hamous on the southern and northern flanks to move forward while Ira, Big Al and Sierra moved across the middle. Suddenly, “AMBUSH” screamed over the static.
Terror looked at Kilroy and both wished they were there and not marching to some sleaze ball arms dealer in San Mona. As they listened, they heard Sierra count out the bogies, “six…seven…I see eight of them. Damn it Ira, aim already, half your shots are missing.” Sierra reminded Robber and Hamous on the flanks to watch for a feint. “I see two tangos, both running south” Robber commented scant seconds later. “One is hurt, I am taking him down first. Firing. Tagged him! SON OF A BITCH! I am hit again. That second son of a bitch tagged me, aiming…WHAT THE FUCK!?!? He tagged me with two Sig PISTOLS from 290 meters away? Who the fuck does he think he his, John Woo?”
“Forget that shit” Sierra screamed over the comms, “Big Al, fire everything you got, I am getting chewed up here!” Kilroy looked worried if Sierra was telling Big Al to let loose with the Colt M204 Grenade Launcher, the following explosions were loud enough to trip the voice or rather noise activated comm microphone bleeding static that never had a chance to die down before the next explosion bleed more static. The explosions with the corresponding static continued.
“How many does that make?” Terror asked out loud.
“I don’t know, at least five. Big Al only had seven 40mm grenades on him.”
Many breaths were exhaled before the static cleared. “…swept, make sure we are clear, I need to bandage myself and Big Al.”
“Who was to sweep? She was cut off, is everyone alive?”
“Quiet, Terror.” Terror went to respond but stopped when she realized it had been Gillie that spoke and not Kilroy.
“Ira get back here!”
“I thought I saw something. I did, there is a soldier behind that tree.” When they heard Sierra asking what tree, Kilroy was sure Ira’s gun fire was an adequate enough pointer. “That son of a bitch is hiding behind the tree, I can’t get a peg on him.”
“Roger that, Big Al flank with Hamous, but come around on his six. Robber, get in position to take this guy out.”
“Tango” Robber sounded out.
“I see naughty man, but me no hit naughty man.”
“Roger that Hamous, move closer, I will drop farther south. Moving…damn that hurt. Some body drop that guy!”
“KILL THEM ALREADY!” Terror screamed and felt very foolish from the looks she got.
“Tagged him. He is rushing towards…Good shot Hamous. The last one is running.”
“No he isn’t.”
“Ha, you get him Ira!”
“Terror, shush already.”
That soldier turned out to be the last man in the ambush after the sector was swept but Sierra’s crew did not come away unscathed. Big Al and Robber had wounds that would take at least a day to recover from while Sierra was turning into quite the bullet magnet, she had been shot no less than 10 times but thanks for the Interceptor armor that included steel plates, she was not only alive but more functional then the two larger males in her squad. One of the soldiers had been carrying a Carl Gustaff SMG loaded with glaser 9mm ammo and he had fired an entire clip at Sierra, hitting with more than a couple of rounds; if not for the steel plates, there would be no more Sierra. Robber without even asking her consent administered Regen to her; followed by Sierra collapsing next a thick tree. Night was coming and Sierra did not like to travel during the dark.
“So are we ready yet?”
