Time went on without Dark, though it seemed to pass by slowly. Students all around the school still talked about Dark. The girls would spend hours discussing how ‘hot’ and the men would sit around during P.E talking about everything he did to defy the schools laws.
Every time people would come up to Link and ask where he was Link would shrug and turn away.
He didn’t know.
No one knew.
By the second week Link nearly became sick with fear of his brothers whereabouts. Link knew that Dark could take care of himself. Dark always took care of himself, but still something didn’t seem right to him.
The longest him and Dark had ever been separated was a week and that was because Dark was sent to juvenile hall for harassing a police officer. Even then Link came by to visit.
But for Dark to be missing after a heated argument about their mother. It was unresolved and it drove Link nearly insane. Him and his brother always worked out there problems together no matter how big or how small.
Link and Dark were brothers, close brothers at that. Hell they were twins! If Dark was sad then Link was sad. If Link was angry then Dark was angry. But that night when Dark stormed off he didn’t leave with sadness in his heart. He left filled with anger towards him and that made Link feel sick.
/Dark can’t stay mad at me! I don’t understand!/ Link would spend almost all of class thinking about it. Where he was, if he was ok. Sometimes vivid dreams of his brother laying dead in a gutter somewhere would plague his mind and he wouldn’t get any sleep some nights.
Even with Sheik there to comfort him it was not enough. He needed his brother. Or…He at least needed to know he was ok.
”Please big brother…Please be ok.” He whispered. Link glanced at the wall clock and clicked his mechanical pencil in time. The teacher became a drone to him. He wasn’t even sure what subject he was in.
”Link,” Someone whispered behind him. Link snapped out of his clicking tempo and turned around to the student who was pointing towards the front of the classroom. Link turned around and saw the teacher glaring at him arms folded.
”Link, what am I going to do with you.” She shook her head and walked over to her desk. Some of the students eyed Link who was now blushing with embarrassment.
The teacher slapped a pink piece of paper down on her desk and began filling it out.
A Pink Slip!
She was writing Link a referral! But for what! What did he do? He has never gotten one in his life.
”Ok Link,” She started setting the pen on the desk and tearing something off the paper. “Take this to the office and they will take of you from then on. I do not wish to deal with you anymore.”
”But Ma’am I-!”
”I don’t want to hear it Redblade. It is now in the principles hands.” There was a slight smirk on her lips as she said that. The glass began to murmur.
Link grabbed his things, took the paper, and stepped out of the classroom.
He lifted the note and glanced over the alleged causes for being excused from class:
Disruptive to students
Rude and unruly behavior
Arguing with the teacher
”Rude? Unruly?” Link crumbled up the paper in his hand and started down the hall. The hallway was bare. There was an occasional open locker and students going from the classroom to the restroom. He decided to take a break before his more than unwanted visit to the office.
He slowly walked into the bathroom and hung his backpack on one of the vacant hooks. He went around the corner and was about to enter the stall, but he noticed it was occupied. He was about to ignore it and leave, but he then heard a familiar cough followed by a puff of smoke.
Links curiosity got the best of him and bent over to see if he could recognize the feet. But just then the door swung open knocking Link onto his ass.
”Ow!” He grumbled rubbing his head. He looked up and saw that it was who he hoped it would be.
”Oh Link! I am so sorry!” Sheik knelt down and helped Link up. “What are you doing here?” He asked.
”I am currently being sent to the principles office… Wait a minute. Sheik, you are breaking a school law!”
”W-What?! Oh, the smoking. I have been so worked up lately that I need breaks more often than usually...but that is aside the point. Why are you being sent to the principle?! Who the hell would-” Sheik was silenced by Link hand.
”Sheik please…don’t get all worked up.”
”Well what did you do?”
”I didn’t think I was doing anything…but I guess that’s why I got in trouble.” Link slide his back against the wall and sank to the ground
”What kind of bull shit is that!” Sheik was nearly turning red with anger. Link noticed that since there little chat Sheik has been quick to anger towards anyone who did anything to hurt him. In some ways in was comforting knowing that Sheik had his back, but at the same time it made Link feel like he was being babysat.
”I don’t know what to do Sheik…I mean, I guess I should have been paying attention, but I am worried about him.”
Sheik assumed he was talking about Dark which result in him rolling his eyes. It bothered Sheik deeply when Link was sad, especially over someone like Dark.
”Link, come on. You really shouldn’t worry about Dark. He is a big boy. You need to keep your head in class. This isn’t like you.” Sheik sat beside him and held him.
”I know I shouldn’t…If I could at least know he is ok. A phone call or something. I can feel him. I just know something horrible is wrong.” Link leaned into the older blonds hug.
”Oh Link come on… I…I am sure Dark is fine. He is just being a big baby. He will come bouncing back.”
”No Sheik… I don’t think it is that simple. There is something not right. I don’t trust the principle... I think…” Link looked into Sheiks deep crimson eyes.
”What Link?”
“Sheik…something is wrong with Dark and I think it may have something to do with…”
Before Link could finish his sentence the bathroom room door flew open. A tall slender women wearing an elegantly crafted purple dress stormed in. Her hair and eyes were a dark violet, and she looked more than annoyed.
”So! Here you are just as I thought you would be!” Sheik and Link jumped off the bathroom floor. “You were to be in the office over 20 minutes ago! We will just have to add this to your referral Redblade!”
”No wait! It isn’t his fault. I was the one who made him stay.”
”No Sheik…It’s alright. It is my fault.” Link jumped in.
”But Link-”
”Sheik it’s fine… I need to start accepting the problems I’ve brought upon myself.” He was grabbed by his wrist and pulled away. Sheik nodded as he watched Link leave the bathroom. He then sunk back onto the ground and held his knees to his chest.
”You shouldn’t suffer for things that are out of your control…”
~~~~~~
”Hello this is your Vice Principle speaking. I would like to announce that tonight at 8:00 P.M Hyrule High’s own Symphony Orchestra will be performing in the Zora Auditorium. There will be two-featured soloist! On the harp, Sheik and Zelda! Everyone come out and show your support for the arts!” With a buzz and click the intercom turned off and the students turned back to their meals.
Zelda and Sheik sighed. The sound of the announcement made them sick. For some reason the school suddenly seemed interested in the schools music department. Usually, it would just be another day and another concert, but the school board suddenly supported anything and everything about it.
”I am so sick of hearing that announcement.” Zelda grumbled picking through her cafeteria food. “I mean the way things are going we won’t even be having a stupid concert.”
”Oh, we are having a concert alright,” Sheik started. “I didn’t spend weeks practicing to not have a concert.”
”But you know Keeta will cancel if Dark doesn’t show up, and since he missed the last 5 after school rehearsals...”
Sheik sighed. “I guess your right. Even if he does show up at the concert he will sound horrible.”
”Yea.” She dropped her fork on the tray and leaned on her elbows. “Hey, but if Dark doesn’t show up wouldn’t that mean that Link has to play his part?”
”With the way Keeta has been acting, he would most likely find another sub or just not have a first flute.”
”Yea…” She paused for a moment and looked around the cafeteria. “Where is Link?”
Sheik paused for a moment. /Should I tell her?/ He thought glancing up at her for moment.
”What? Sheik is there something you aren’t telling me?”
/Damn she’s good./ Sheik was of course worried. To be sent to the Principles office all of a sudden, for what reason he didn’t know. Sheik sighed and finally answered. “He was sent to Ganondorf.”
”What?! Why?”
”Not even he is entirely sure. Link said he wasn’t doing anything.”
”Well that’s not right!”
”But it’s my fault he was dragged out of the bathroom and had another mark added to his referall.”
”What, were you guys making out in the bathroom?”
”No Zelda. We bumped into each other. He seemed almost petrified by it…”
”Well yea! Anyone who is sent to Ganondorf would be petrified…but Link. Not our Link!”
”He was talking about something before we were interrupted… I am not really sure, but he said that there is something wrong with Dark.”
”Tch, there is always something wrong with him.”
”But him and Dark are twins… He said that he can feel his pain, so he is certain that something is wrong with him. I mean really wrong.”
”Speaking of wrong.”
Sheik looked across the cafeteria room filled with students and saw and ebony haired figured maneuvering through the crowd. “That bastard.” He growled.
Almost every girl flocked around Dark as he made his way to his seat with his tray. He looked incredibly calm. Not a hair out of place. Still as sleek and beautiful as ever.
Sheik frowned for a moment but then remembered what Link had told him. How sweet and caring his brother is…was, could be. “I almost feel bad for hating that little jerk.”
Zelda pushed her tray aside giving up on her food and turned around to see Dark making his way towards them. “Almost.” She couldn’t think of much else to say.
”Dark! Oh Goddess! Dark PLEASE take me to the dance!”
”Ready for the concert tonight? Dude you will be awesome!”
The compliments did not end. There were streams of praises and pleads and Sheik was growing impatient with them.
”I can’t take this.” Sheik pushed away from the table and started to approach Dark. Zelda tried to grab Sheiks arm but she missed.
Sheik stood in front of Dark and looked down at the slightly shorter man. Dark glanced up at him and started to walk around but Sheik again blocked his path.
”Uh, excuse me.” He said rudely. Sheik only scowled and moved closer. “Hmm… Not moving eh?” Dark moved closer and wrapped his arms around Sheiks waist. Sheik growled and pushed him away. Dark stumbled over a near seat but caught himself.
”You keep your hands off me you sick fuck.” Sheik snarled.
”Well I am sorry. The way you were approaching me I thought that maybe you wanted to take another ride on the Dark side.” Sheik clenched his fist.
”Shut up.”
”Hey, you came on to me.”
”I didn’t and you know that!”
The students began to grow interested in the rising tension between the two teens. People stopped what they were doing and began to gather in a distant circle around them.
”Sure Sheik. Whatever, I don’t have time for this.” He began to walk away but was quickly grabbed by Sheiks firm grip.
”You aren’t going anywhere until you tell me what the hell is going on!”
”Since when has my business been any of yours.”
”Since it began to hurt Link. Your brother. Remember hi?”
”Ha. How is the little fag?”
”Damn it Dark! He has been worried sick over you! He stayed up all day and night waiting for you to come home…He was sent to the principles office because of you!”
Dark smirked. “How unfortunate.”
”That’s it? That’s all you have to say?”
”Hey… I lived through it… I am sure he can live through it too.” Again Dark tried to walk around but was shoved back by Sheik. He grabbed his shirt and jerked him towards him.
”Your brother is suffering Dark!”
”The little prick gets one bad grade and all of a sudden it is a world crisis? I took that little runts beatings long enough. It’s his turn to take it up this ass a few times.”
Something in Sheik snapped. He couldn’t take the crowds murmuring, the stares, and the attitude of his lovers inconsiderate brother. He clenched his fist tightly and swung it at Darks face. He managed to hit him hard enough to draw blood, but Dark himself barely moved.
The crowd of kids began to gather by the hundreds. They began to chant “Fight! Fight! Fight!” and that’s what they intended to do.
Sheik hurled himself onto Dark and began to punch him repeatedly in the face, but Dark turned out to be stronger than his frail body suggested. He managed to flip the blonde over and straddled him. He then began to punch him fiercely in his stomach knocking all the air out of him. Sheik tried to catch but every time he sucked in air it was beaten out of him.
”Dark get off of him!” Zelda yelled. She ran over to aid him but she was shoved away by Dark.
”Hey, you two break it up now!” A man charged through the crowds of kids. Dark was pulled off of Sheik and held by his shirt.
”Dark, principles office now!” The older man yelled. Dark wiped the blood off his lower lip and again smiled.
”With pleasure Mr.Demos.” He bowed and left.
”And Sheik…Of all the people in the school you get into a fight?”
”I am sorry sir.”
”I know you are, but really this is uncalled for.”
”I know sir.”
”I’m sorry Sheik, but I will have to take you out of tonights concert. ”Demos released his shirt and sighed. It really did make him sad to say that. He knew how important it was to him.
”Please Mr.Demos, it isn’t Sheiks fault. Dark was provoking him.” She said it so sweetly batting her eyelashes. “And Sheik and I worked so hard on our duet…”
Mr.Demos looked at her then back at Sheik. His eye was beginning to turn purple.
”Alright. You’ll get your concert, but you will have One month of Saturday detention in return.”
”Yes sir! Thank you sir!”
”Alright, you better get to the nurse with that black eye.” Sheik nodded and Demos left. The cafeteria slowly returned to normal. The kids turned back around and continued their lunches.
”Thanks Zel,” Sheik said taking a seat.
”Yea…no problem.” She looked over at Sheik who was still somewhat in a daze. She decided to bring it up now rather than waiting. “What was Dark talking about?” Sheik froze for a moment and tried to think of a response. He knew what she was talking about, but he thought he could play it off a little longer.
”When?” /Smooth Sheik./
”Dark said ‘…Take /another/ ride.’ He wouldn’t have said that unless if…” Zelda gasped as she saw Sheik cover his face with his hands. “Sheik…You…?”
”I know alright! It is horrible! But it meant nothing!”
”Sheik I can’t believe you. How could you do this to Link? He loves you Sheik! He opened up to you and you lie!” She grabbed her backpack and slung it over her shoulder. “You know, I would expect something like this from Dark but not you…”
”It meant…nothing.” He whispered to himself. The bell rang and kids began to file out of the cafeteria. Sheik however didn’t move. He sat in that same seat thinking about it all. Link, Dark, Zelda. She was pissed at him.
Part of him hoped that Zelda wouldn’t tell Link not because he didn’t have a right to know, but because he wanted to tell him ASSUMING that he even made it out of the pits of hell, a.k.a Principle Ganondorfs office.
Sheik was worried more about Link than anyone or anything else. He didn’t deserve this. He knew that Link would be crushed if he found out that Dark didn’t care at all about his feelings.
Wait a minute! What the hell is going on? This is Link. Look up Perfect and his picture is next to the word. /Link never does anything wrong… Even if he wasn’t paying attention in class others do much worse and never get sent to the principles office./ He knitted his eyebrows together./ What is this some sort of drama show? Is someone going to jump out and yell surprise? Something isn’t right./ Sheik realized how right Link was. Something fishy was going on in Hyrule High, but what he wasn’t sure. /This drama is going to have to wait. Right now there are more important things to figure out./
Look up Perfect and his picture is next to the word. /Link never does anything wrong… Even if he wasn’t paying attention in class others do much worse and never get sent to the principles office./ He knitted his eyebrows together./ What is this some sort of drama show? Is someone going to jump out and yell surprise? Something isn’t right./ Sheik realized how right Link was. Something fishy was going on in Hyrule High, but what he wasn’t sure. /This drama is going to have to wait. Right now there are more important things to figure out./
