Departure
Twyla sat by a fire the next morning, sipping at a mug of steaming tea while camp life went on around them. They had encountered Muradin Bronzebeard and some of his dwarves the day before, and they had joined their forces together in securing a base camp. Arthas was off speaking with Muradin, leaving the rest of them awaiting orders.
She looked up, frowning, when she saw a zeppelin make its approach from over the sea. “A zeppelin? Here?” She wondered aloud as Captain Valonforth stood, frowning. The zeppelin came to a halt over the base camp, and a rope ladder was lowered, a high elf emissary disembarking and moving towards them.
Captain Valonforth strode forward, recognizing the emissary as being from Lordaeron. “I apologize, emissary,” He said as the high elf moved forward, “But the prince is away on an errand. What brings you to this desolate place?”
“By royal edict, your men are to return to Lordaeron immediately. Lord Uther has convinced the king to recall this expedition.”
Twyla and others who were near enough to hear the exchange were all but gaping at the emissary.
“We’re to just… Pick up and leave?” Captain Valonforth asked, shocked.
“That’s correct. My men report that the roads from here to the shore are held by the undead. You’ll need to find an alternate route back to your ships.” He turned to go, but Valonforth was not done yet.
“Emissary, might I request that the lady Twyla return with you? Travel by zeppelin is faster than travel by ship, of course.” Then, Valonforth lowered his voice so that only the emissary could hear, but Twyla could see the high elf’s brows shoot up in surprise.
“Of course. We will leave as soon as-”
“I only need my pack from my tent.” Twyla said, standing quickly. She was in her armor, with her warhammer within reach. Base camps were safe, but one never knew.
“Very well. I will wait for you aboard the zeppelin.” The emissary turned to go. Twyla hurried to secure her warhammer to its harness on her back, and then rushed to grab her pack from the small tent, hearing Captain Valonforth telling the rest of the force that they would cut through the trees. Silently, she thanked him, and sent him a grateful look as she emerged from her tent… To be surprised when he gave her a nod and a look filled with longing. She quickly turned away, climbing up the rope ladder.
If I get out of all this alive I’m going to become a priestess and swear off men forever. She thought grimly as she made her way aboard the zeppelin.

The journey back to Lordaeron was uneventful. The emissary and the zeppelin’s captain both offered Twyla their quarters, but she declined their offers with a smile, content with a small, simple cabin like the one she had started the voyage to Northrend in.
It was in that cabin that she decided her plan.
She had always written everything in her battered journal. The day she had been trained as a paladin, her growing fondness for Vinwald. They day they had kissed for the first time, and the day he had proposed to her. She had written about Stratholme, hoping that getting the memories onto paper would get them out of her mind, finding things did not work that way. She had written about the voyage to Northrend and everything Arthas had done, even his ‘proposal’.
She ended it with the arrival in Northrend. She mentioned the emissary’s arrival, but did not mention getting on the zeppelin. Instead, she wrote a short letter and slipped it into her journal, between the cover and the first page, before wrapping the book in brown paper, tying it with twine, and addressing the package. She then took it to the emissary and had a few quiet words with him. He was confused, but in the end he agreed to her request.
When the zeppelin finally reached Lordaeron, the emissary reported to the king, and mailed the package Twyla had given him, while Twyla quietly disembarked and sought out Lord Uther. When she found him she told him the truth of what had happened on the voyage to Northrend. Together, they swiftly formulated a plan to keep her in hiding until Arthas could regain his senses.
To everyone else, she just vanished.
That was how she wanted it to be.

Ya'll are going to hate me, but this is the last chapter in the book of Twyla. The second book is coming soon; I'm working on it when I'm not playing. Oh, and don't worry. We'll be seeing Twyla again. Even though this book is done, her story is FAR from over.
