A Job To Remember
It had been a week since the airport terminal disaster and the destruction of yet another big medicinal company, WillPharma, and now Leon was just taking a break from the mayhem as his higher ups had suggested. Yeah, big break that was. He'd been promised a full month of off duty relaxation in the Carribean but of course as he suspected they were barking at him to get ready for his next 'urgent mission'. He honestly thought the higher ups were just making him do this because they were too lazy to actually research backgrounds of some people and bring them in as their new lap dogs to do the dirty work.
The sound of a far off helicopter had him leaning back in his chair and groaning in frustration. He had hoped that he would at least be able to take a half hour nap before they showed up, gods knew he needed one with the nightmares he'd been having lately of zombies. The fear was always still there in the back of his mind and so he always took every precaution possible before he went to sleep. Cameras had been set up along with motion detectors and there were guns stored all over the place. One would think it was a mafia hide out with the way he kept himself safe. His business cell phone rang making him jump and curse and as he stood to grab it he noticed something of his out of place. For once he ignored the urge to search the entire place and made up a story in his mind of how it got there.
"Leon S Kennedy reporting for duty." He answered, schooling his voice into the calm tone he usually always used. He recieved no response on the other side for several seconds and was about to check if he'd accidentally pressed the hang up option when a light flickered on and writing scrawled across his screen.
'Keep this highly classified material out of the hands of those who are not highly trusted by the government.' He ignored the standard beginning to the message and waited for the rest.
'You will be collected in thirty minutes, make sure you are well prepared to leave anything and everything behind you.' As the sentence finished Leon darted around the place first gathering his guns and the few bags of clothing he'd bought during his short vacation.
'You and one other partner will be tackling the whole of the lower gulf coast and removing any threat you can find be it human or B.O.W. Vaccines are not available at this time but do not worry, you have two days before you depart, they will be ready then along with a side sachel for any survivors you may encounter.' Leon paused in his frantic darting to read the message and his jaw dropped. Just ONE person?! They must be damned good to be thought of so highly by the President to be sent in with him alone!
'Details of who that is will be given to you via file upon arrival at the land down site. At no cost are you to divulge any of the information you are recieving and are about to recive.' The end of the messages gave Leon a fresh break to think over what he'd just read. It also gave him a chance to curse the hell out of the idiots who took him off his vacation. But he'd never turn down an assignment, not like he could. Duty was calling and he had to answer...ugh.
As the sound of the chopper came closer and closer Leon kept running it through his head who he could be meeting. It couldn't just be anyone since the government trusted just him and the new partner to take care of it so it had to be someone efficient, someone with results to prove their worth. Claire Redfield was out of the question that was a given so who-
And then it dawned on him. CHRIS Redfield, her brother! Of course! He'd survived hell and back just like they did so it had to be him! With an eager spring in his step he gathered his bags and darted to the stairs that led to the roof where he heard the chopper humming away. He'd never met Chris before but he was eager to today if only to see a glimpse of him.
He was greeted by a low ranking official who gave him his report as promised and guided him to the chopper and the seat that awaited him. Once secured inside the vehicle, Leon opened his promised file to find a handsomely rugged face staring back at him. The scowl on his lips told the brunette that he either hadn't been happy or the time it was taken was a serious one. Moving his eyes from the clipped on picture to the documents inside of the manilla evelope he scanned them briefly to get just a glimpse of his new partners past. It turned out that Chris had taken on a new string of infected and even the infamous virus called 'Uroboros' and uncovered it's secrets and plans of use. A low whistle accompanied another scan of data.
"You took out Wesker eh?" Leon murmured, both awed and aggravated that this man seemed to have done more for their contry than he had. None the less he wanted to meet Chris Redfield with every fiber of his being.
"We're here." Leon glanced up at his drivers triumphant declaration and glanced out of the gaping side of the chopper to find that they had indeed arrived at the land down point. He checked his watch to find out that he'd lost himself in the documents for nearly an hour and a half.
"Thanks." He nodded his head at the man and leaped down to the ground, stumbling suddenly as his leg (numb from lack of movement) gave out from under him. A strong arm latched itself around his own and held him as he steadied himself. He tested it's strength before pulling free of the grip and coming face to face with the man in the file. Chris Redfield.
"Sorry to startle you, you seemed pretty intent on reading that document I was afraid you'd end up doing something like that. So, did my background interest you that much?" Chris asked, glancing down at the folder tucked under the brunettes arm. Leon glanced down at the papers and felt his cheeks reddening. Great just great, he'd practically debauched his first chance of impressing his new partner already.
"Yeah, I read that you were the one who took down Wesker? It's a shame that someone with so much potential could go so wrong." He murmured, following the burlesque BSAA member as he turned and headed towards a tent where the two of them were being waved inside.
"Yeah, I'm not surprised though. If only you'd known him before, you could tell then too that he wasn't going to be one of us." Chris' laugh was deep and the hair on Leon's arms and the back of his neck, sending a declicious chill down his spine.
"Right." As they entered a tent they noticed a large table sitting squarely in the middle, a row of people seated already and gazing at them expectantly. A small glimmer in their eyes was the only thing that betrayed their fear for the two men being sent in alone and the respect they felt that the two would take on such a task. The commanding officer however had a bored expression on his face as if he expected them to fail. Like this mission was nothing more but a test.
Whichever it was Leon didn't like it one single bit. He turned to Chris, shrugged, and sat down claiming the seat closest to the entrance and the one with more elbow/leg room.
"Alright, what are the plans?"
