Chapter 1
It was happening again. He was about to lose everything that he had been working so hard to keep. It was this damn Devil Bringer of his it was the cause of all his problems; it was the reason for what was happening now.
“Nero, I’m really sorry, but I have decided that I will never be able to deal with all the stares from the rest of the villagers, nor what they keep saying. I just can’t deal with it anymore. They think that I have become evil, because I am with a Devil. I just can’t do it, I’m sorry.” Kyrie sobbed as he turned from her, and headed out the door, he’d heard all before, time and time again, he just wasn’t expecting to hear it from her.
He walked out of the apartment complex, and looked around the street. He saw the stares and the how quickly people turned away from him. It was always the same, even after he had helped to defeat Sanctus and the Order, even after he had risked his own life for these people; they still looked at him as if he would turn on them, and start killing everyone like some sort of demon. He knew what his arm looked like, he understood what it meant, but they didn’t need to make it so obvious that they didn’t trust him.
Do they not realize that they would all have been sucked into a Hell Gate had he not been there? Now what was he supposed to do? He had been living with Kyrie, and thought that things were going to be alright, but now he knew that there was nowhere in all of Fortuna that would accept him. The problem was, that as long as he has the blasted Devil Bringer, there was nowhere that would accept him.
It was always the same, although, now that he thought back to the problem with Sanctus and the Order, which was when the people of Fortuna , and Kyrie, learned of the Devil Bringer, there had been at least one person during that whole ordeal who hadn’t screamed, or even ran when they had seen his arm. Nero made up his mind, he was going to find Dante.

“Achoooo!”
“You coming down with a cold or something Dante?”
“That’s impossible.” Replied a tall, well muscled, silver hair, and eyed man, who was sitting with his feet on his desk, and a slice of pizza in his hand. “Devils can’t get colds.”
“You’re only a half Devil, remember.” Replied a tall, thin, long blond haired woman.
“Very funny Trish.” Dante sulked as he ate his pizza.
The woman named Trish stood, from where she was standing, and headed out towards the doors. She turned to regard Dante before she spoke quickly.
“Well I’m off, got to go meet Lady for that assignment she had mentioned to me. Later Dante.” She quickly ran out the door before Dante had a chance to stop her and ask her about the job. It had been rather slow at work, so she knew that Dante would have jumped at the job.
“Damn, and she’ll most likely want me to pay the expenses too. What a pain.”
Dante returned to eating his pizza and looking over an old magazine about motorcycles. He had just finished his second slice of pizza, when a sudden thought had occurred to him. It had been about 3 months since the incident in Fortuna, and he hadn’t heard from the kid since then. Well considering the kid still had Yamato, he figured it was a good excuse to go and check up on him.
Dante quickly stood from his seat, and grabbed his jacket from the chair. He grabbed Ebony and Ivory, and placed them in their holsters. He left Rebellion where it was on the wall, he didn’t figure that he wouldn’t be needing it for this. Once he was sure he had what he needed, he left a quick note for Trish and Lady letting them know that he had gone to check on Yamato, and left the shop.

Nero had managed to get some information on where he might be able to find Dante, and had made it out of Fortuna. The problem was that he didn’t have any money, so he had to walk. It was getting close to night fall when he heard a motorcycle coming up the road. The problem was that it was heading towards Fortuna, and not away from it, so Nero ignored it, and kept walking.
The bike went by him, and it took a few seconds for him to realize that the jacket that the rider was wearing, seemed familiar to him. When he realized it was Dante he quickly turned around in time to see that the bike had stopped not far from him. Nero jogged up to the bike that was idling.
“What are you doing here?” He asked as he came up beside the bike.
“I was about to ask you the same thing kid.” Came the slightly muffled reply from under the helmet.
“I was on my way to your shop.”
“Well I was on my way to come see you, and to check on Yamato. Never expected to see you walking down the highway though. Something happen in Fortuna, with Kyrie?” Dante asked taking his helmet off.
“I just got tired of not fighting demons, so I figured I would come and find you, maybe work for you or something like that.” Nero replied, not able to look Dante in the face. He knew that he should probably tell Dante the truth, but he knew the older man would probably laugh at him for it.
“Well it would make it easier for me to keep an eye on Yamato, so why not.” Dante shrugged. He knew that Nero wasn’t being completely honest with him, but he figured the kid had good reason for not telling him the truth. “Hop on kid.”
Nero jumped onto the back of Dante’s bike, and Dante turned them around and headed back to Devil May Cry. They rode in silence the whole way back to the office. When they arrived, Dante showed Nero to one of the spare rooms that he had, and left the kid to his own devices.
Nero dropped onto the bed, and prayed to every god he could think of, that this would be the end of his troubles. Dante would be the last person to hurt him, at least, that’s what he hoped for.
