Ghosts from the past
Marri sighed as she watched the sunrise. It was beautiful, but her eyes were distant. Her mind was elsewhere.
“Problem, my love?” Eroth asked worriedly
“No. Just homesick, I be guessin’.” She said. “I’ be gone a long time.”
He stroked her hair lovingly. “Do you want to return to your home?” He asked her.
“No. Not ‘til da war be over.” She said. “When da war be over... Will ya come wit’ me?” She looked up at him, awaiting his answer.
He smiled softly at the innocence of the question. “Of course, my sweet. I’d follow you where ever your journeys take you.” He said.
“T’ank ya, me love.” Marri said and leaned against him.
“Most welcome, my love.” Eroth said, caressing her. “I love you.”
“I love ya too.” She giggled softly. He leaned forward to kiss her until the alarm was raised. Crossroads was under attack. The two of them rushed out of the small in and into the main part of the city. A Human Warrior and a gnome warlock were raiding the city, slaughtering everyone that they could. The Human was a tall muscular man. He was young, but his hair was white as snow, his eyes were a pale blue and his skin white as a sheet. He charged Eroth. Eroth called forth his Fel hunter and stepped back to cast dark magic upon him.
The Gnome Warlock was a lovely female, still young but strong and wise. Her Voidwalker complained about being there but slaughtered as commanded. She had bright pink hair, pulled up into pig tails. She giggled happily as horde members succumb to her voidwalker and curses.
“Kal, don’t focus too much on the demon. Kill the warlock and the minion vanishes.” Prin, the gnome female said to Kal, the human warrior.
“I know how to fight them!” Kal growled.
Eroth looked to Marri. “Beware, they are strong.” He said.
Marri nodded. She summoned her totem to keep them healed then another to cause their speed to be slowed down.
“Oh, what a pretty little morsel.” Prin said. “Let’s get her.”
“Let’s kill her!” Kal said.
“Phanlos, capture the girl alive.” Prin ordered. Her voidwalker obeyed and hurried off. Marri used every spell she had the time to cast, but none were strong enough to deter the minion.
“Erot’!” Marri cried out as the Minion grabbed her and tossed her over his shoulder.
“MARRI!” Eroth cried, dashing off to save her. He barely had taken three steps when a bullet slammed into him. He staggered back and looked in the direction the shot had come. There stood the same Dwarven Hunter that had killed Adonai. “But how?! I killed you!”
The Dwarf smirked, the tone Eroth used confirmed he remembered him. With a swift flick of his wrist, his bear charged Eroth. With his Fel hunter occupied, he was left to face the bear on his own. This... didn’t look promising.
“EROT’!” Marri cried out again, this time in fear for Eroth’s safety.
“So the lass has a new companion?” The Dwarf said. “A terrible shame, I’ll be destroying him before her as well.”
Eroth cursed and swung at the bear with his staff. The bear caught the staff in his mouth and snapped it in half with his powerful jaws. “Oh shit.” Eroth said and stepped back before getting shot again. It was eerily familiar. This was how Adonai died. Unable to hurt the bear, unable to touch the dwarf.
He heard his fel hunter die and looked over. The Warrior turned to him and ran at him. The bear’s teeth sheared through his exposed leg bone. He struggled to stay on his remaining foot but was hit by another bullet and he fell backwards. The warrior stood over him.
“Goodbye, you offence to nature.” The warrior said, raising his sword above his head.
“EROT’!!” He heard his beloved cry his name in horror. There was so much pain in her voice. The warrior’s sword seemed to descend on him in slow motion. He could feel his skull splitting as the sword made contact. Pain seared through him for what seemed like eternity, but he knew was only the blink of an eye. The last thing he saw was two sides of the same blade as it split between his eyes. Then... nothing...
“No! Ya monsters!!” Marri cried. “Erot’! Erot’!!!! Let me go! EROT’!!” Her voice was choked with sobs. She couldn’t bare to lose another person she loved. Not again. “EROT’!!”
“Would someone shut that damned troll up?” Said Kal. “Her incoherent babbling is driving me nuts.”
The Dwarf walked up to the voidwalker holding Marri. “My apologies again, lass.” He said before lifting his bow and bringing it down on the back of her head, knocking her out.
“Why apologies to that Troll, Rummy?” Prin asked. “It’s not like it has feelings. It’s a brainless monster bent on destroying the alliance!”
“Rumbleshot Darkforge, Rummy for short, shook his head. “Ya didn’ look in her eyes as the life of her companion ended. She feels, same as you and I. Pain, anger, hatred, loss. An this be twice now, I’ve watched her look that way. Once cost me my life at the hands of the undead Kal just killed.”
“No time for debates. Backup is on its way. Let’s get the hell out of here!” Kal said.
They took their prize and hurried out of Crossroads.
