Beautiful Brown Eyes

This is in response to BigRed’s Challenge. May not be what you're looking for, but I think that you’ll like it. This is a story about a young man and the love he has for his horse. OoT.

Link slowly moved the brush over Epona’s glossy coat. He loved brushing her after a hard ride. He loved brushing her even when she didn’t need it, though sometimes she was prone to get irritated with him.

She was intelligent for a horse, more so than any other he had seen before. Her large brown eyes observed as if she knew every word that were spoken.
Link wished that it were not the case, for he had said things to her that were not supposed to be said.
“Link, stop pampering you horse and come in for dinner!” His wife Malon called. He had not wanted to marry. He had just wanted to stay wild, ride the fields and fight monsters with his horse. His wild, beautiful, strong and intelligent horse.

Reluctantly he put away the brush and led Epona to her stall. Even more reluctantly he told her goodnight, and when he was sure that Malon was not coming out get drag him in, he put his mouth by her large ear, “I love you Epona, and I wish we could be together always.”

He was not one for words, he preferred to keep his silence and let things play out. But his feeling… forbidden feelings, for his horse compelled him to speak things that should never be spoken.

He left, and could feel her large, beautiful brown eyes watch him as he went.
