Authors Note: I wrote this story back in 2004, and I found it while I was going through some of my folders. I figured that I'd spruce it up a bit and then re-post it because after re-reading it, I decided that I definately wanted to finish it. However, at the end of this chapter there will be a poll for what I should continue with. I've been tossing around 3 ideas, so, I'll let you all pick the one you wanna see most! I'll also be polling people on yahoo!messenger. Anyways, enjoy the fic!

01: Remembrance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This wasn't supposed to be how it was...It wasn't supposed to end like this...We were supposed to go home together...Not Kairi...Not just you...Not just me...All of us...How could this happen? I wasn't strong enough, was I? I let Kairi down...I let King Mickey down...I let you down too...No matter how much it's my fault, I will fix it, I promise. I won't just leave you there. I'll come back, and then we can be together again, just like old times. Didn't you like that, my dear friend? Just the two of us, without Kairi, Tidus, Wakka and Selphie. Like it was before...happy times. I'm coming, so wait for me, please? I won't take long...I'm coming now, so wait...Please wait, Riku...
Sora shook as he woke from his dream, sweat soaking his body. It had been more vivid then any other dream he'd had previously. It pained him just to think about it, knowing that it was a possibility.
"I have to stop thinking like that..."
The fifteen year old say up and rubbed his sapphire eyes of sleep as he yawned lightly. It was still well before dawn, but the boy didn't want to go back to sleep, not with that dream lingering in the resesses of his memory.
With slow movements, the slightly saddened boy pulled on his skin-tight dark blue jeans, tugging the crotchless black pants over them, securing the buckles and the belt. With an almost whimper, he pulled on the black t-shirt, followed by the black hoddie as well, covering himself from the cool air. He glanced to the right and saw that his partners, Donald and Goofy, had left their door open ajar so that they could help him should something go wrong. So as not to wake them, he shut the door firmly, yet quietly, shaking his head slowly.
"This time...I'm going alone. Sorry guys. You've been alot of help to me."
A sad expression came across his features as he thought back to when he'd sealed Kingdom Hearts. The last image and wrods from Riku: "Take care of her...", and then, his promise to Kairi, and her then her own promise to him: "I'll come back! I promise!" "I know you will!" He couldn't take it anymore. His heart ached for his friends, and even more-so for Riku then Kairi, who he at least knew was safe.
Riku had always been there for him. When he was old enough to play outside by himself at age five, the first kid that he'd met had been Riku. He remembered it and smiled. It had been a warm summer day, not that the Destiny Islands really had any other season...But, he'd ran straight for the beach and had begun to build a sand castle.
(Flashback: The Great Wave)
"Wee!"
A little five year old with brunette hair sat by the edge of the water, slowly starting to build a castle out of the sand. It was his first time being allowed to go outside without his mommy and daddy there! He was so excited! It was short lived however as a shadow suddenly blocked the light behind him.
"Aww! You blocked the sun!"
Turning his head back to look at the evil person who dared to do such a thing, and to give him a piece of his mind. His words were cut off though as he came face to chest of a boy around his own age. He looked further up, coming eye to eye with a pair of aqua eyes that he'd never forget.
"Who're you?"
"I'm Riku. Who're you?"
"I'm Sora!"
The sapphire eyed boy giggled, smiling to Riku, who he automatically deemed as his new friend.
"Wanna make a castle with me?"
An eyebrow rose on Riku's forhead, but he sat down beside the boy, helping to build the castle with a slightly reluctant, "...alright...".
A few small towers were soon made, perfectly compressed so that they didn't fall apart, unlike Sora's which constantly broke and crumbled. He grinned as the brunette pouted.
"Hee-hee. You didn't stick it together good enough!"
Not one to be out done, Sora picked up a small seashell and demolished one of Riku's better towers.
"Now we're even."
The brunette stuck out his tongue, then went back to re-building his tower. When he noticed that Riku had stopped building, he frowned, thinking he'd upset the boy. He lifted his head to apologize, but all that came out was a soft gasp as his apologetic sapphire ones came to meet terrified aqua. He'd never seen someone so afraid.
"Rikuy...? Rikuy! What's wrong?"
Riku slowly stood, his voice not working. He grabbed Sora's hand, tugging him up, pulling him away from the castle. The other boy struggled weakly. He faintly heard the other boy saying his name, and finally he was able to form a single word: "RUN!"
No sooner did the word leave his mouth did a wave two times the size of a normal one, come rushing towards the spot where they'd been sitting. Sora screamed, and with Riku's help ran faster. They didn't have time to make it to high ground, so Riku instead headed for the cave he'd found earlier that day, knowing that if they got in far enough that they'd be safe from the water. Not stopping or even looking back, the two ran, bolting into the cave and as far back as they could go, climbing up the rocks, and not a moment too soon as the water filled the cave floor, coming half-way up the rocks they were on before slowly filtering back out.
Sora's lower lip quivered, and he suddenly broke into tears.
"I'm afwaid!"
The boy shivered, sinking down to the ground, his thumb popping into his mouth, tears slowly streaming down his pale face. He felt warm arms wrapping around him, bringing him into a hug. It was the first of many times that Riku would embrace him. He sobbed into the older boys chest, his free hand clinging to it.
Riku gently pet Sora's hair with one hand, holding him close with the other. He held the boy til he'd fallen asleep, exhausted. With a small smile, he carefully placed the boy down, walking to the entrance to take a peak. It had calmed, and he smiled. So as not to disturb Sora's sleep too much, he lifted the smaller boy onto his back, giving him a piggyback out of the cave, walking along the secret path to the treehouse.
After Sora was tucked into the makeshift bed, Riku sat by the ladder, watching for signs of people coming from the main island. Chances were that if the waves were this big here, they'd be just as big or bigger at home. He knew that not only his parents, but Sora's, if not the whole island would begin searching for them.
A soft moan came from the corner where he'd laid Sora, and he looked over to find the brunette tossing lightly in his sleep. Wordlessly, he got up and walked back to the younger boy. With a soft snort at his compassion, he began to pet the boys hair, calming him with gentle words. The other boy, in his sleep, nuzzled Riku's hand softly, smiling dazedly.
"Rikuy..."
Sora soft voice filled the quiet space, and Riku could feel his heart melting.
"I'm right here, little one. No need to be frightened."
Sora's mouth turned into a pout as he quietly whined, "I'm not little!"
The older boy chuckled soft, but nodded.
"Alright, Sora."
The two sat there, the sun slowly starting to set. Sora had began a game of Shiri-tori(1), but after only four rounds had drifted off once more.
Riku sat in wait, Sora's head rested on his lap, his fingers running through the brown mess there. He heard a noise and his ears perked up. It was shouting! Someone had come to get them! With a grin, he woke Sora, who groaned reluctantly.
"Sora! We're saved!"
At this, little Sora's eyes shone.
"Really?! You mean...maybe mommy came!"
The two hurridly climbed down from the treehouse, running to the other side of the island, following the shots.
"Mom! Over here!"
Riku yelled, Sora following up with a "MOMMY!"
It wasn't much longer when no fewer then ten people landed on the island. Riku and Sora's mom's rushed to their children, engulfing them in hugs. Riku gasped for air.
"Aw mom! I'm fine!"
Sora meanwhile cuddled into his mother's embrace, fresh tears leaking down his cheeks.
"Mommy! It was so scary!"
The two mothers smiled at each other, then glanced down at Riku.
"Riku, did you take care of little Sora all by yourself?"
"I'm not little!"
Riku chuckled at Sora's protest, then nodded his head.
"Yeah mom! You should'a seen it! He was so scared! But I was brave and I kept him safe!"
Sora's mother smiled, then leaned forward to embrace Riku lightly.
"Thank you, Riku. Sora is my only child now...I don't know what I would have done if I'd lost him too. (2)"
Riku blushed, gently pulling away, flushing brightly.
"Aww! It was nothing!"
Sora's mother glanced at Sora, smiling.
"Sora, honey, thank Riku."
Sora nodded, walking over to Riku.
"Thank you for saving my life, Rikuy."
The brunette leaned forward, wrapping his arms around the other boys neck, holding him tightly. He smiled brightly as he felt the others arms go around him as well.
"You're welcome, Sora."
When the two broke apart, Sora spat onto his hand, offering it to Riku.
"Since we're too little to make a blood pact...make SPIT PACT!"
Grinning brightly, he watched as Riku rolled his eyes, spitting into his own hand, then grasping Sora's with it. They shook twice then pulled their hands apart, fascinated, and disgusted by the trail of spit that still linked them.
"Ewww!"
Both mothers shook their heads.
"That can't be sanitary."
"Too late now."
With ushered movements, the boys were herded into the boat their mothers shared. No sooner had they pushed off, did Sora slowly fall asleep. Riku too, was drowsy, and his head fell to rest on Sora's peacefully.
"Angel's, both of them."
"I can't wait to see the trouble they cause when their older."
One the boat had landed, each mother picked up their respective son and began walking in opposite directions, when Sora suddenly called out to Riku.
"We'll be friends forever, right, Rikuy?"
"Forever and more, Sora."
(End Flashback: The Great Wave)
"Now I have to be there for Riku...He's the one that needs me now."
Sora's sapphire eyes filled with unshed tears as he walked towards the door, intending to leave quickly.
"Goodbye guys. It's been real."
With a sigh, he walked out the door, heading down the hallway not once even glancing back as he summoned his keyblade to his hand.
Darkness lay all around him. No matter which way he went, nothing was seen, nothing heard, nothing felt, touched, tasted. It was like all his senses had beed disabled. Sight especially eludded him as he was blindfolded. This however was by choice. He'd escaped from Kingdom Hearts, only to find his image of reality shattered in Castle Oblivion. With his heart and mind torn, he chose to stop seeing life, chosing to live by his heart. Now he was waiting for Sora to keep his promise. Waiting for him to come and save him.
Light would never shine in his eyes again, at least that was what he feared. He couldn't rely on his feelings for Sora to make the other boy return. It would be up to the sapphire-eyed boy to come or not. Riku's own emerald eyes shone beneith their prison, tears immediately absorbed by the blindfold. He longed to remove it, to take it off and freely cry, but it stayed as a constant reminder that he'd screwed up.
"Sora...only you can save me now."
A small, sad smile crossed his face. It wasn't that he didn't like the sudden memory, it was that he wished it was reality and not just something that had passed back then. At the time however, he hadn't once complained.
(Flashback: First Kiss)
"Hey, Sora. Wanna race?"
"You're on!"
The two boys took their usual positions at the starting point, Kairi sighing as she lifted her hand.
"Ready? Get set...GO!"
The two dashed off, jumping the rocks, then dashing to make it first to the ladder of the tower. Sora made it and Riku grinned, dashing the long way towards the halfway point while Sora shot down the line glider. The two reached the point at the same time and started to dash back the way Riku had come originally.
Riku was gaining a lead, his longer legs giving him that extra length, while Sora mearly whimpered, knowing he was beat once again. They dodged a wayward crab and dashed up the side of the hill, running swiftly. The older boy slowed, letting Sora catch up, but never overtake.
Sora muttered something about "A damn tease" and put on a burst of speed. He cleared two stones, and went to jump the third. With a grin, Riku dashed past him just as he landed, reaching the finish line first.
"You're such a jerk, Riku."
"You're just sore 'cause you lost again."
Riku's smirk grew as Sora landed beside him, then fell to the ground laying there, eyes closed. By now Kairi had wandered off, leaving the two boys alone.
"Shouldn't lay there like that. Anyone could jump you."
"The only other person here is you, and unless yo---RIKU!"
Sora didn't even finish his sentance before Riku was straddling his waist, pinning his hands down at his sides.
"What're you doing? Get off, Riku."
"Nah. I kinda like it here."
"I'm glad one of us does."
"I can make it worth your while."
Riku leaned down, pressing his soft lips to Sora's. He felt the younger hesitate, then kiss him back, a small blush on his cheeks. Boldly, he flicked his tongue out, gently running it along Sora's lower lip, tasting the sweat from running before he parted the lips, darting inside for a taste.
Peaches and something uniquely Sora assalted his tongue, and Riku couldn't get enough of the flavor. He searched every inch of the boys mouth, mapping it out and coaxing Sora to join in the play. When he finally pulled back, they just smiled at each other.
(End Flashback: First Kiss)
Riku could almost taste Sora, and it only made him sigh in frustration. Here he was, waiting patiently for his friend to save him, and he'd not come yet. But still, he knew there had to be a reason...He just knew Sora wouldn't abandon him.
"Sora, save me soon...I don't know how much longer I can stand being alone. I miss you, your light, your warmth, and especially...your love..."
Here I sit. Waiting for the one to rescue me. A long year has passed and I gave up almost all hope, but now I know you'll come back to me. You've never abandoned me yet, and I know you won't now. So, here I sit. Darkness is nothing when I know the one who will light up any dark, chase away any fears, not when I know YOU are coming. I can't wait. And I know that even now...even now as I sit here. Slowly, worriedly. Counting the days 'til I can see...Just once more I want to see your smiling face, those warm sapphire eyes. I want to hold you, tell you that after to long, I truly do love you. I want to be with you, now and forever. Can you accept that? Please...Save me, Sora...
To be continued...
Author's note: Okay! And there is chapter one! As for what's going to happened next, well, that's up to you! Here are the three ideas I've been tossing around:
1: Sora meets up with Axel, and the two begin their search for Riku together. Meanwhile, Riku finally removes the blindfold, revealing the dirty world, and his hatred for it consumes him, leading him to lose his heart completely, and any feelings for Sora that he has.
2: Sora finds Riku, they have sex, end of story.
3: Sora goes into a deep depression, and during that time, Riku breaks free, starting his search for Sora.
Personally, I like idea number 1 the best, but then again, it's not for me that I'm writing this story. It's for all you wonderful readers! So, leave your vote in your review! Voting closes on: June 14th, so hurry and get your votes in now!
Peaches and something uniquely Sora assalted his tongue, and Riku couldn't get enough of the flavor. He searched every inch of the boys mouth, mapping it out and coaxing Sora to join in the play. When he finally pulled back, they just smiled at each other.
(End Flashback: First Kiss)
Riku could almost taste Sora, and it only made him sigh in frustration. Here he was, waiting patiently for his friend to save him, and he'd not come yet. But still, he knew there had to be a reason...He just knew Sora wouldn't abandon him.
"Sora, save me soon...I don't know how much longer I can stand being alone. I miss you, your light, your warmth, and especially...your love..."
Here I sit. Waiting for the one to rescue me. A long year has passed and I gave up almost all hope, but now I know you'll come back to me. You've never abandoned me yet, and I know you won't now. So, here I sit. Darkness is nothing when I know the one who will light up any dark, chase away any fears, not when I know YOU are coming. I can't wait. And I know that even now...even now as I sit here. Slowly, worriedly. Counting the days 'til I can see...Just once more I want to see your smiling face, those warm sapphire eyes. I want to hold you, tell you that after to long, I truly do love you. I want to be with you, now and forever. Can you accept that? Please...Save me, Sora...
To be continued...
Author's note: Okay! And there is chapter one! As for what's going to happened next, well, that's up to you! Here are the three ideas I've been tossing around:
1: Sora meets up with Axel, and the two begin their search for Riku together. Meanwhile, Riku finally removes the blindfold, revealing the dirty world, and his hatred for it consumes him, leading him to lose his heart completely, and any feelings for Sora that he has.
2: Sora finds Riku, they have sex, end of story.
3: Sora goes into a deep depression, and during that time, Riku breaks free, starting his search for Sora.
Personally, I like idea number 1 the best, but then again, it's not for me that I'm writing this story. It's for all you wonderful readers! So, leave your vote in your review! Voting closes on: June 14th, so hurry and get your votes in now!
