1) Courage

Early evening in the Haunted Forest found Balthazar deep within the thick colletection of leafless trees where if one wasn't careful, they would most likely come across the Brain Tree or the Esporager.

In the sky, the sun sank slowly as it crawled its way to the horizon. At the same time, a big blue biped Lupe stalked his way through the forest as he sniffed the air and carefully scanned his suroundings. Yet this wasn't an ordinary Lupe, this was Blathazar. If one was to look him up in the Book of Evil, they would know that he was abandoned at a young age and became lost in the Haunted Forest untill he came across a feild where a large group of Dark Faeries were having all sorts of fun. When he asked them for help, they laughed and proceeded to chase him away by throwing rocks and sticks at him. The ploy worked and Balthzar ran away crying.

On his own, he learned to survive in the harsh and unforgiving forest as he learned how to hunt the one thing he hated the most, Faeries. He learned various crafty ways of capturing them and he would keep them in bottles which he would later sell for exhurbarant prices to other Neopets and various shops. Yet on this evening, it wasn't Faeries that he was hunting. It was bigger more pleasing prey that he was after.

Well before the sun touched the horizon, the bounty hunter found a rarely used foot worn path and he peered around a bush that was to his left to see a red cloaked figure ten feet away. The Lupe smiled and settled himself on the ground to wait for this figure to get closer but missed the dry twig that was by his right fore paw. He stepped on that little twig and it let out a snap that rang through the forest. Balthazar held his breath as he glued his eyes to the figure whom stopped in their tracks.

Balthazar remained hidden behind the bush as the figure parted the front of the red cloak with a singular slender blue hand only to reach up and pull back the hood to reveal the figure's face. Balthzar's breath stilled as he stared at the beutiful sight of the figure whom turned out to be a five foot and five inch tall biped female Acara. She had fur the color of the pale blue sky and eyes the color of the deep blue ocean with shoulder length wavy blue hair that was left the hang freely, a cute pink button cat like nose, pink in the palms of her hands and pink pads on the paws of her hind legs. Other than the red cloak she wore a white blouse that hung off her shoulders, a black leather corset that clung to her waist and a ankle length navy blue skirt with thin black lines and silver threads that had a slit up each side that stopped just above her knees.

Her name was Rosalia.

Balthazar was infactuated with the young Acara who was brave enough to bring a basket of food and drink to her grandmother deep within the Haunted Forest every day. For many days now, he would watch her from a far and pine for the beautiful young female. Yet now he had drawn the courage to finally confront her with these feelings as he could feel the full moon crawling its way towards the Eastern horizon. Yet his plan would mean nothing if she ran off into the woods blindly in fear. So he waited as he remained as still as a fallen log as he kept his eyes glued on Rosalia.

At the same time, Rosalia scanned her surroundings slowly and carefully and she kept her butterfly shapped ears pricked for the slightest noise of an possible threat. Time passed as the sun finally reached the horizon and against her better judgement, Rosalia let out a heavy sigh as she continued on her way. A small smile curled itself in the corner of Balthazar's muzzle, impressed at her bravery once again as his prey came closer to him. He waited as he listened to her feet step upon the dry leaf litter of the forest which caused a dry crackeling noise.

Finally, Rosalia came close enough to Balthazar that he could see her face...but he did nothing. All he did was crouch there in the growing darkness that concealed his form and watched the object of his affections walk by him. As he watched her walk on by, his heart pounded so hard in his chest that not only could he feel it thump against his ribcage but he could also hear his own heartbeat, something that he feared Rosalia would hear as well...and she did.

She had walked three past him when her ears picked up the sound of the fast and steady heart beat. She stopped in her tracks and whirled around as she feared that someone was nearby but saw that nobody was there. Yet she could still hear the pounding of that heart.

"Who's there? Show yourself," Rosalia demanded firmly as she gripped the bamboo handle of the wicker picnic basket in both her hands. Balthazar noted this as he moved out of his position, revealing himself as he stood up. At the same time, Rosalia noted a large dark shape rising up from the ground and gasped a silent gasp as she took a step back.

"Wait!" Balthazar exclaimed as he held out his right paw and took a step forward. Rosalia stopped in her tracks at the sound of the rough voice. At that moment, he could sense her fear and frowned at this as he wished it wasn't there. Yet, he couldn't blame her given the surcumstances. For next minute or so, the two just stood there in silence as a huge full moon rose up over the Eastern horizon and its light revealed to Rosalia that her dark figure was actually a dark blue biped Lupe, which made her raise an eyebrow.

"Wh...who are you?" Rosalia asked and it was Balthazar's turn to raise an eyebrow. It was obvious that the Acara never read the Book of Evil.

"Balthazar," the blue Lupe said and the Acara's eyes grew almost as wide as tea saucers. It was obvious that she heard of him.

"Balthazar!? 'The' Balthazar?" Rosalia asked, both shocked and astonished. He nodded. Rosalia felt a panick rise within herself as her breath began to come out in pants as a dull ring made itself known in her ears.

"Wh...what do you..." Rosalia started but stopped when her head began to feel light and she touched her right hand to it.

"Rosalia, what's wrong?" Balthazar asked, highly concerned. Yet he didn't get an answer as she began to collaspe. Balthazar gasped and quickly stepped forward to catch her. Once she was safe in his arms, he kneeled down so as she was laying on the ground and his lap. He chanted her name like a sacred mantra in a worried tone as he smoothed her silky hair out of her face. Slowly, Rosalia came out of the shock and found herself in the arms of one the most dangerous Lupes she ever heard of. She would have shreiked and fought for her freedom if it hadn't been for the concern she saw in his face.

"What's wrong?" she asked curiously and his face lit up with joy at the sound of her voice.
"Rosalia! I'm so glad you're alright," Balthazar said happily.
"You are?" Rosalia asked, surprised.
"Yes. Rosalia, I don't want you hurt. I would rather die than let any harm come to you."
"Then, why..."
"Rosalia...I...love you," Balthazar said tentativally, almost as if he was embarrased.
Rosalia's jaw dropped slightly and she blinked twice in surprise at this news, "You do."
"Yes," Balthazar said as he took her right hand and held with with his own.
"I love you for not only your beauty but your courage as well."
"My courage?"
"Yes, there aren't many Neopets who'd come out into the woods everyday like you do. I admire it," Balthazar said, the admiration apparent in his eyes.

Personally, Rosalia didn't think she was that brave...even though she did agree with him on the matter that not many Neopets came into the forest. Out of her family, she was the only one who'd go alone to her grandmother's house...even though her mother disaproved of it greatly.

"How long have you loved me?" Rosalia asked when she finally came out of her thoughts.
"Ever since the Month of Hibernation of last year, I just...wasn't able to tell you my feelings untill now," Balthazar said as he released Rosalia's hand and allowed her to sit up on her own as he sat down next to her in Indian style.

"Why?" Rosalia asked curiously and Balthazar was uncomfortably quite for a moment.
"I...I was afraid you'd reject me. Or at the least, run in terror," he finally said.
"At the least?" Rosalia asked, astonished.

Balthazar snorted. "I'm used to the whole screaming and running thing. Just about everyone knows me and it comes with the territory," he said, the last part quite sadly. Rosalia noted this and couldn't help but feel for him at this moment as her heart felt as if it was breaking.

"I guess there's only question left to ask," he said after a moment's silence.
"And what is that?" Rosalia asked.
"...would you be able to love someone like me?" he asked.
