It's great so far. But let me give you some advice. I've read many sci fi military books and am the son of a marine who served in Vietnam. Ok let me tell you how in a real combat its like.
A Lance Corpral is in charge of a 2 men who are Privates this is called a Fire Team
A Corpral is in charge of a squad, its 3 lance corporals with 2 men under them. That's 10 ppl in all.
A Seargent is in charge of a Platoon, who is in charge of everyone
A Captian is in charge of at least 3 infantry platoons this is called a Company.
This is probably more info than u need but its fromm Wiki:
A fire team is the basic element of the GCE. It consists of four Marines: the team leader/rifleman (M4/M16), one rifleman (M4/M16), one grenadier (M4/M16 with M203) and one light machine gunner (M249). The team leader is typically a Corporal or Lance Corporal.
A squad is made up of three fire teams, usually led by a Corporal or Sergeant as squad leader.
A rifle platoon consists of three squads, a Navy Corpsman, a Platoon Sergeant, and a Platoon Commander. A weapons platoon will substitute for the squads a 60mm mortar section, an assault section, and a medium machine gun (M240G) section. It is led by a 2nd or 1st Lieutenant.
A rifle company consists of three rifle platoons, a weapons platoon, and support staff. A weapons company will substitute for the rifle platoons an 81 mm mortar platoon, an anti-armor platoon, and a heavy machine gun platoon.
There is also a Headquarters and Service Company, consisting of a headquarters platoon, a communications platoon, a service platoon, and the Battalion Aid Station. It is led by a Captain.
A battalion consists of three rifle companies, one weapons company, and one Headquarters and Service Company, commanded by a Lieutenant Colonel.
A regiment consists of three battalions, led by a Colonel
A division, commanded by a Major General, comprises three infantry regiments and an artillery regiment.
Other than that, its good

Too good. I stopped coming here for awhile after I'd convinced myself I wouldn't ever again be able to find quality writing- the kind that also incorporates things like plot- but you've proved me wrong. You've got a wonderful writing style, one that seems to fit the essence of Gears of War all too well. On top of that, you not only bring out the characters' actual personalities well, but also create a new character that's her own individual, someone whom readers actually want to know more about. I can't wait to read more, and I'll be checking back until the story's complete.

hmm, saw your promotion on the forums. must say, great job with the story build up. A little dense tho; stop holding out on us and get the rutting beginning already. Let the smut commence :D
