To avoid spoiling too much, the two have an internal timer that counts down from about two or three days worth of seconds towards zero. Both must return to their creator and enter stasis chambers to reset the internal timers for another few days, otherwise they die.
The leading point behind the fic was that they were rapidly running out of time and didn't particularly care; they were twenty-nine seconds from dying at the end.
And really, what better way to go out than in a burst of sexual passion?

Ah, I see, it makes quite a bit more sense now.

Okay, well I havn't played a megaman since the series came out, so, don't know what's going on.
It was well written enough for smut, about all I can say.
